I just saw a display plasma TV, 50S65 at my local Costco and they want $450. This TV has manufactured date June 2013. Is it worth it to buy the display model as supposed a new one at Sears ($699)? They had it on the whole time and the picture look very lousy in SD (probably due to not being calibrated). Any thoughts?

It does not look very good in SD ever. In HD it is beautiful. I bought one and I do not watch any SD but HD is very good. Recommend it if you are planning on HD use.

Costco and Sams are two of the best places to buy floor models because it's never sitting on one channel all the time to get ir or burn in, (at least around here) but you still need to check it and check the hrs.

From my experience Costco will negotiate if you can get the store manager to come talk to you, while Sams has to stick to whatever the home office says the price should be.

Read this post to see how I worked the Costco manager.

BTW, plasmas always look lousy in a place like Costco when sitting next to an led in that lighting. Remember, you have like 2 or 3 months to bring it back for a full refund, no questions asked. You also get a 2 year warranty from Costco for no extra charge.

I've called all Costco's in the Greater Phoenix, AZ area and all of the units they have on display have this issue. Visit the "Panasonic TC-65PS64 and TC-50PS64 ~OWNER'S POLL~" thread (http://www.avsforum.com/t/1474301/pa...64-owners-poll) for more info.
If you own this TV, check if you have this problem and call Panasonic immediately. I'm including images below.

Mine has the same issue and mine is a P50S60. Is that a normal occurrence with these sets?

This is simply because the panel is made in GRB arrangement. The subpixels have to stop somewhere... so you see green one end and blue the other... you will see this on any display that uses subpixels in this arrangement, such as most LCDs. It should disappear at viewing distance.

so i found a guy who is selling his 50" S64 manufactured in july 2013. he said it was used sparingly as a spare tv and had anywhere from 100 to 200 hours on it. he seems honest and also said i can inspect it to decide if i want to buy it. the price i'll pay for it is $450. that a good price already or should i try to haggle since i have to drive 20-30 mins there to pick it up and inspect.

thanks.

I doubt that's a panel issue. It maybe something simple like a lose wiring harness or a problem with one of the video boards. If your set is under warranty I suggest you contact a local authorized Panasonic repair facility.

Thanks -- hopefully it is something simple like that. Two months out of warranty BUT -- saved by credit card extended warranty whew! I'll report back when resolved.

Dead panel. So disappointed. At this point it looks like the F8500 is my only option to come close to what I had, for basically an extra $1000. I really liked this TV. Anyone else know of this happening, or was I really unlucky?
