Dear experts - first post as a newbie, need your help - decided on the VT60 65 inch after a thorough reading of all reviews and seeing 2013 HDTV shootout videos, never had to purchase anything so expensive before and totally confused with the options I have in hand.
1) Best Buy local in store purchase
2) Paul's TV
3) Abe's of Maine
4) ABT electronics
6) TV super Stores
Which store has the best return policy ?
Which of the above store gives the best extended warranty coverage terms or should I buy it separately in Costco?
I do not care about $50-$100 difference as long as there is peace of mind from a reputable buyer with good service terms. I have never shopped anything from any of the above stores, so if you can enlighten me on the way forward, I am all set to buy my first TV in 5 years - never had a TV so long as had been saving up and waiting to buy the best possible plasma !. Thanks so much in advance for your time and appreciate all the advice that you can give.
As far as return policies -- Amazon is awesome. They have free returns on TVs for 30 days (they even pay return shipping). I don't know whether any of the other retailers have such a liberal policy...you'd have to look on their websites or call and ask. I personally always buy my big ticket electronics from Amazon for this reason.
Based on what I've read here, you might want to stay away from Abe's of Maine. I think they're pushy with their up-sales and don't have the reputation of the other retailers you've listed.
You can read through the VT60 Great Deals thread for more info on the other retailers, but if I were you I'd also do the research myself -- it's a lot of money you're spending and relying on internet opinions isn't the same as doing the research and coming to your own conclusion.
^ You right, read the threads and reviews, I went with Pauls TV because of the lowest price and no taxes. Amazon and BB wanted taxes and I told the rep. I was shopping for warranty and leaning toward ST, he said let me see what I can do, he came back with 5yr for $175, down from $399 with half off coupon if I don't use during 5yr term. I am not to happy with the white glove shipper they used.
You had more then one person when they delivered.
I must say Pauls TV experience was ok, but now I know you have to haggle with them to get lowest price, I called day before and got what was lowest price and said I have to go see the sizes before final decision. Rep gave me his personal line and said call when ready, so I did, he never answered or called back, so I called got some one else, then got the TV cheaper then the day before price. So haggle with them, tell you can get it cheaper.
Yes the salesmen are great but.... my first TV was delievered a day ahead but to the wrong address.
When they came to my house the next day it was with the wrong TV.
Later when the correct TV was delievered it was a July build when other people on this forum were getting October builds. and yes I have the fan noise.
When the White Gloves showed up it was only one guy and a small guy. I had to help him get the TV to my door which is where his dispatcher told him to open it up so I can check it. No way was he allowed to bring it in my house unless I signed for it
Complained to Paul's and asked if they had another delivery service or at least talk to the one they use to get this "White Glove" crap out of they way and was told .... no luck ... maybe next time they will be better......
3 Grand for a next time... no way I will buy local and take my chances...
Just shrugged it off becasue there was no damage done to te unit that was major. Uppin closer inspection the screen and bezel had multiple scratches. So after some haggling they honored me a replacement at no charge. Build date was MAY and I purchased at the end of October.
Second set comes..also has physical defects with what looks like dirt under the screen. So I had to get claim numbers from Panasonic so that I would not be charged a return and shipping fee. Now awaiting pick up of this unit and my refund. But in the meantime I went with Amazon and grabbed the 65VT60 for 2285$. Much better experience with them
PS. Both deliveries from Pauls came
With one driver. So I had to lug the TVs in and out. Which I spy usually
Complain about but I did request two people or I would refuse delivery if requests not met and still sent one
If I remember correctly, the one I got from Amazon showed they received 97qty of the Panasonic 65VT60s at the same time according to the shipment sticker from Panasonic on the side of my box. Of course, this does not guarantee that all of them were made in September 2013. With Amazon's assumed higher volume of sales, I would expect them to have units that were built more recently (as long as they rotate their stock).
