It's $379.99 at Best Buy right now if you need a bedroom TV or whatnot. It's about $400 on Amazon and getting low on stock.

I'm struggling with this one. I don't own a TV, so I'm considering this as my first HDTV purchase. However, it'd be more of a "thinking ahead" purchase for me... I currently don't have my own place. Staying with parents to pay off some student loans. But I plan to move out later this year, and I would like to have a TV at some point. Is it worth $380 for this TV?

My Pros:

1. TV is well reviewed and has gotten high recommendations.

2. Plasma = smooth picture.

3. 43" is a good size for the price.

My Cons:

1. The set looked dim at Best Buy.

2. At about 6 ft, I can see the pixels.

3. The screen is awfully shiny.

If you were in my shoes, would you pull the trigger or wait till you have your own place?

Your title indicates you were mentioning a 51" display BUT your comment 43" in your comments indicates you might need to find out much more about what it is you think your looking at in store and on paper. Get that sorted first I'd say!

The 43" version was on sale for $379. I think it is now back to $399. It is a very nice TV, and has better image quality than many overpriced LEDs. The 51 inch has been around $479 - $499. It will get plenty bright. Use Standard Mode, and turn cell light all the way to 20 if you like bright. But turn the bright level down to 45 so the picture will not be too bright and washed out. Adjust to your preference. It may be a bit cheaper at Walmart, and the Sams's Club/Costco version is also a bit cheaper. Same basic TV.

No, not pentile, but does use anamorphic sized pixels. (horizontal size of pixels are wider than vertical) It has a native resolution of 1024x768.

I was turned off by the 720p resolution. Can't find a plasma that's around 40inches in the $500 range with 1080p. I think im going to go the LED 120Hz route.
