Is this the RS10 or RS15 ? Not as good as the refurb RS40 for around $1800. Right ?

It's the DLA-HD250. This is JVC's "entry level" projector. Yes the RS40 is a higher end model.

Interesting how JVC priced their refurb:

HD250 at $1595
RS40 3D at $1795
RS25 2D at a higher price

It was a far cry from their 1st attempt in selling at eBay of the HD250 at $1095. Guess they know how the market works or the demands.

Other than the finish, the HD250 is really similar to the RS10 or looks almost like the HD350.

That is a good question Ranger. I have been doing a lot of research and only care about 2D as well. The RS40 will be brighter, but has bulb dimming issues based on what I have found. The RS25 has better controls for calibrating and is more "stable" in the bulb department. I have been checking out there eBay store and if the RS25 was the same price as the RS40 refurb I probably would have already bought one. Keep in mind that the RS25 is *new, not a refurb. I contacted them to confirm this and that's why they changed the verbiage on the RS25 to indicate the standard bulb warranty information. Look at the RS40 and it will indicate something about being a refurb.

As far as a comparison between the RS25 and RS40 2D, best I can tell is that they will be about the same, with the RS25 possibly better black level. But the RS40 brighter.

I suspect RS25 is a better 2D machine. According to this thread RS25 is a better designed machine without a mirror altering the light path.

RS40 is brighter and sharper but 3D is crappy anyways. I heard the refurbs don't come with latest 003 bulbs.

The authorized JVC dealer I spoke with last week that had a couple RS45 refurbs indicated to me that they come with the 002 bulbs, so I would bet that the RS40 would be the same. I am really tempted to get one of those RS25's.

+1, but I'm in transition. Wife will give me hell.

I'll take a new RS25 over the refurb RS40 myself.
