Looks like a good deal on a projector that was around $2,200 when it was released in late 2011.

Can anyone weigh in on how it compares to newer, cheaper projectors like the Benq W1070/Acer H6510BD? I know that it's not as bright as those newer models but I am guessing that the overall picture quality of the HC7800D is better as it was originally in a higher price range?

I've read that the black levels on the HC7800D were not as good as its competition, but that was in comparison to other $2,000+ projectors and I am curious as to how it would match up to current ~ $1,000 projectors.

The $800 Acer H6510BD is $500 cheaper than this (although without 3D glasses), is the Mitsubishi that much better or just outdated?

The Mits should have better contrast, though I haven't seen it. The Benq's are known for their sharpness.
I have the older Benq w1000 and impressed with its durability and outright toughness. It's been a great little projector that has never given me an ounce of trouble. I use it daily for TV and surfing the net. I also own a JVC RS45 and use the Benq most of the time. I have over 1600 hours on the Benq and it's still going strong with original lamp. The Benq's are torches!! Even with 1600 hours running in Eco mode it's visibly brighter than
my JVC in high lamp mode with 350 hours on the lamp.

I did too. Had it sitting on a table projecting onto bare drywall just to check it out but was still impressed at how good it looked and the 3D was better than I hoped for.

Got mine ceiling mounted last night but still need to pick up a screen for it. I'm probably going to go with a 100" fixed screen off Amazon.
