5030 sounds like it has enough improvements to be worth $2-300.

"Unlike its predecessors, the 5030 models have a better tonal range thanks to the ultra black image system. They have sharper blacks which was a major concern in the previously launched 5020 models. The contrast ratio in the 5030 mode is 600,000:1 as compared to 320,000:1 in the 5020 models keeping the light output constant. Customers can find an improvement in the lens used. The 5030 models have optical zoom and have a larger range of F-number. The latest models have a F-number ranging from 2.3-3.6 whereas the previous models had a range of 2.0-3.17. The designers at Epson have added a new feature in their 5030 models which is quite appealing for customers who like black and white movies. The “Classic black and white cinema” mode improves shades of grey without introduction of false colors. There is a little difference in the terminal input of the projectors. The 5020 model has 2 RCA (Audio/LR) stereo which cannot be found in the later models. In the non-eco mode 5030 models consume 350 watts of power whereas the 5020 model consumes 364 watts keeping the color light output constant at 2400 lumens. Although this is a minor difference, in long term use the 5030 models are more power efficient.

A new feature in the 5030 model is the Auto-iris. This enables the projector to adjust automatically to the video source. Epson have improved the color modes available in 3D. Apart from the dynamic and cinema mode, the 5030 models also have THX mode. The more expensive 5030 models offers a greater range for the operating angle of the remote control."
