If you're like me and have to pay sales tax on Groupon deals - here's the same $799 at BHPhoto. I believe it was $899 just yesterday:

Price dropped to $850 after rebate at Tiger direct. I bought as the $50 Mir was expiring and the projector is impressive. Kept it in the box until yesterday in case the price dropped more. Of course the change comes today.

They are definitely an authorized dealer.
Newegg is an authorized dealer for just about everyone, are you kidding, they are one of the top on the NET for electronics with annual sales of 3 billion dollars.
They are #172 on the list of the world's largest private companies.

I didn't know how Mits handled it. some companies, like Pioneer with their Elite line of products, won't allow ANY online stores to sell their products and actually back it. has to be a brick and mortar... many other companies have these types of exclusions for online sales

Mits is the same way with the 8000 - select, usually local, dealers only (though AVS could get them when I called a year ago) - but not the 7900. The 7900 is approved for online distribution.

It'd be great to see the 8000 discounted like the 7900 soon. I'd be tempted to buy another just to compare, especially if there's another emitter, and glasses bundle deal like Tiger-direct offered. But I have no idea if the 8000 was produced in the same quantities to merit liquidation, and I don't know of a single dealer in a 100 mile radius that carries them either.

When I was looking, some third party vendors on Amazon had them for $1400-1500, which is not too far off for some of the improvements, as long as they include the extra bulb.

I'll take a look, but unfortunately, production reliability seems too uncertain with these for me to gamble on any vendor I don't know or can't confirm to be authorized, regardless of price. Not to imply they won't cover their product, but dealing with Mitsubishi over the past year on a problem with my current 7900, it seems to me their primary goal is to pass the buck and put the burden of diagnosing problems on their customers. Their first and second tier customer support has proven extremely lacking.
