I'm looking to fill out my collection by picking up a good number of Blu-rays, but I want to do so as cheaply as possible by buying used.

Looking for a good online source for building the collection out. Where's the best place to look? Should I just cherry-pick used discs from Amazon's Used sellers, or is there an outlet that specializes in used discs? I dread lurking on craigslist for random ads, and would prefer a more legitimate resource. Hoping to spend no more than $5/title, though I'm guessing older catalog titles should go for even less.

My only requirement is that the disc case and artwork are included, that the movies are original and not pirated, and of course the disc must be playable (and exchangeable without hassle if it's scratched.)

Thanks,
R

Good question, I've bought quite a few 'used like new' from Amazon sellers and until recently been pleased with all but a couple, but been royally ripped off with enough ~recent orders to back away for now, so been on the lookout for other options. Amazon has been a bit of a 'mixed bag' about helping with getting some satisfaction, sometimes with an 'over the top' resolution, especially where packaging has been the problem, and some completely ignored, so like most things, 'caveat emptor' applies.

In my locale there's a fairly large used bookstore which sells used LPs, DVDs, BDs, etc., and for the most part all DVDs are $6, BDs $8, but historically virtually all my DVDs, BDs [whether new or used] were bought for less [many for much less], so if you have the time to follow/search the seemingly myriad sales on-line and in stores as well as take advantage of Best Buy's periodic 'upgrade & save' sales, averaging ~$5 [or less] over time is doable.

I've bought a couple dozen off eBay. So far so good. Most sellers seem to be pretty good about actually listing the condition of the discs and the cases.

Is it solipsistic in here, or is it just me?

I've gotten a few from GoHastings and Family Video. I even got the slip for Transformers 3 from Family Video.

+1 for GoHastings.com The best time to buy, if you can wait, is Christmas. Amazon, GoHastings, and the others run sales and special buys. It is a great time to build your library of older titles but it is also the time to get in trouble with the wife as box after box after box shows up at the door eek.gif

My local Costco in Frederick MD has a number of BluRay movies ranging in price from $7.99 to $9.99 and some of them are fairly recent releases too. You can trust that they are not bootlegged copies and they will come with all the original artwork and packaging. The only problem is that my experience has been that the selection of movies varies widely at Costco stores, so YMMV.

Thanks! What condition are 'previously viewed' and 'used' BDs in? I use to have good luck getting 'like new' or very close to it through Amazon, but this past year enough of them have been grossly mis-advertised that I quit buying used except locally.

TIA,

GM

Be careful with gohastings, I've been getting a lot "rental" version lately.

That's what 'previously viewed' means.

As far as condition, every one I have ordered (40+) has played perfectly.

When I refer to it as rental version, I meant that the disc has no special features, etc..It's a stripped down version of what you would get in a retail store.

Those are the 'previously viewed' versions that you can choose to buy. They come from rental stores. If you want to buy a used, retail copy then select the 'used' copy.

They detail what each version is in the link I provided.

Yeah, just got some Blockbuster BD rentals and they don't even have chapter selection and a couple only have basic 5.1 sound, so won't be buying anymore BD rentals, though all the DVDs I've bought from them are the same as on store shelves AFAIK.

What I'm curious about though is the condition of the BD cases, artwork also, so curious what the overall cosmetic condition is, especially any that were listed as 'used'.

Oops! Just noticed this is the last day of the sale.....

TIA,

GM

Hello,

I'm in the US. I have about 100 used BRs I'd like to trade for other Bluray discs. Is there any place anyone would recommend that let's you trade? I imagine they don't trade 1 to 1 but even if they took 2 for every one disc they exchanged, I'd be OK with that. I'm looking for some less common ones. I have mostly the big budget title BR discs.

Some of the less common BR discs I'd like are

A Guy ThingBachelor PartyBatman: Mystery of the BatwomanBlind DateCluelessCutting Edge, TheDarkness Falls (2003)Hellboy - Blood & IronHellboy - Sword of StonesHenry V (1989)ImmortalityIntolerable CrueltyJim Gaffigan Beyond the PaleLake Placid 2OverboardPhenomenonPrince of Darkness (1987)Rush Hour 2Superman - DoomsdaySuperman: Brainiac AttacksWaitingWeekend at Bernie's
