Im debating what to do with my storage situation. I have a new htpc in my family room which im very resistant to add drives to. Or I could add 2-3 of these and attach it to the htpc hidden in a cabinet. Im not sure how I would set my storage up. I guess I could get 4 and set 2 of them for strict back up?

I could always get 2-3 internals and setup a raid on my main rig in the other room.

Im really trying to speed up my transfer speeds. The 10mb/s transfer speeds I get really bother :Dme over my gigabit NAS. frown.gif

Edit: nevermind. Looks like the deal is dead?

This is the best deal in a long time for Hard disk drives. However i guess i missed it again, its back to 129. Can the case be opened and hdd be taken out to use it as a bare drive in the HTPC?

Yes, you can take them out. I did so on an earlier purchase and on this model I was able to put an older 1tb back in so I have a nice external backup drive still.

Where did you get the Tiger Direct sale flyer? Our Sunday newspaper usually has a 4 page Tiger Direct / CompUSA flyer. I've never seen such a large multi-page one, not even in their main store.

The flyer/link came from a post on Slickdeals.

I'm keeping an eye out to confirm legitimacy.

It was $129.99 yesterday and I had it in my Amazon cart but didn't checkout. I woke up this morning and it was $109.99 so I ordered it. I was able to cancel and get it for $89.99. Awesome!

So it looks like both Amazon and Newegg currently offer this 3TB Seagate OEM (bare) internal HDD for $89.99 w/ free shipping (sales tax varies by state).

FYI, Amazon is the better retailer IMO because they have a better return policy. In the case of Newegg, if you have a problem and need an RMA, they typically won't pay for return shipping, and then your refund is subject to a 15% restocking fee.

I've not heard of anyone having these issues with Amazon.

Caveat emptor smile.gif

Your nuts!

Newegg smokes Amazon.

I've Rma tons of newegg stuff no problem.

There is no restock on defective merchandise if you get a store credit or exchange

Only a fool returns for cash back or refund.

Retailers hate that.

In for 3. Just awaiting my Amazon gift card this week and I'll be in for a 4th!.

The question now is, do I put them in my main rig and turn it into a Server or do I go with a Synology NAS?

Thoughts?

Retailers hate that.

Did not know about opting for store credit to eliminate restock fee, but in many cases NE still makes return shipping the buyer's responsibility (even on defective items) -- some of the NE reviews on this HDD complain about this aspect of dealing with NE.

Amazon's painless return process is better... IMO, mind you. And, in closing, I won't call you names if you disagree smile.gif

Lol. Sorry about that.

If you call newegg on phone vs set up online you don't pay for return shipping FYI

I've done it tons of times.

Newegg is great.

Get the 240GB Intel 330 from TD for $130. MUCH better investment.

Ends 11/30, so plenty of time...

Also $140 at Newegg without rebates.

Newegg also has the 180GB version for $100. Also an excellent option.

These may be more expensive, but I'm willing to bet they may put buyers' mind's to ease over the Vertex 3.
