Since when is $180 for a 4TB a good deal ?

That's about $30 more than I am willing to pay tongue.gif (Am I too cheap ? eek.gif )

If you are willing to settle for $2 above your pricepoint, there is an alternative:

Hitachi Coolspin 4TB 5400RPM 32MB cache SATA III 3.5" internal hard drive retail kit with 3-yr. warranty.
Price: $151.99 (free shipping, no tax for most)

From B&H Photo.

Meh - if it had 1TB platters then I'd buy one but seeing as how it has 5 x 800 GB platters I'll pass.

I am not sure that is worth $30 ???

And if it is you are better off with a Seagate 1TB platter 4TB 5900rpm that performs better than the RED models and still costs cheaper. RED is one of the worst hard drives available based on value for a HTPC, a PC, or a server. It's almost always more $ and it's not a particularly good performer. The "reliability" is purely marketing IMO. That leaves you with what ? That $30 cheaper Hitachi has the same warranty... The Seagate is a year shorter but considering it's faster and cheaper, it's not a big deal to many.

Come on, Mfusick, don't attempt to convince anyone of the Hitachi's value here. I've been buying these at a rate of 1 or 2 per month for the last 3 months (limited by finances, unfortunately), and I'm kinda hoping that B&H's supply of these will hold up for at least 2 more months (at that price).

Wsume99, good reply. Don't fall for these inferior 800GB/platter Hitachi products. Stay away!!! biggrin.gif

This is ridiculous.

Unless you have a better price for this model, take the arguing here where there's already a thread: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1491905/should-i-just-start-getting-wd-reds.

Meanwhile, I've asked the mods to lock this thread.
