A sub that really needs no introduction in these parts. $1800 new in black oak from JTR.

Up for sale: an absolutely mint/no-smoke home, passive, black-oak JTR Captivator.

I don't even allow people to breathe on my gear, never mind touch it. My black Oak was the pick of the litter, as I drove to JTR to pick it out amongst a half-dozen others. It is EXCELLENT.

I haven't had a transaction here before but I'm a long-time member here at AVS and I've done 100+ on ebay with an absolutely perfect history. My user name is "thejamestownoasis".

I REALLY do not want to ship this: it's HEAVY, would be expensive, and I simply do not trust carriers with this kind of equipment anymore.

BUT, I am willing to drive up to 250 miles within Milwaukee WI (53202) to meet so that should open it up to quite a few.

I think $15 for my time and gas per 50 miles to you (remember it's really double that for me) is more than fair as it won't even cover the fuel for my Honda Pilot.

I'll respond immediately to questions.

thanks!

James

Thanks for the compliment, it's fun, that's for sure.

Don't mean to meddle but I think they are asking which specific Captivator model is it. The Captivator 1000, 2400, S1, pro,etc...?

Again, it is the 2011 20hz passive model.

And it's at its FINAL reduction to $1300. $1800 new, folks. It's FLAWLESS.

Funding a DIY project. Someone gets a steal.

I'll sell the Crown xs900 2,000 watt amp, behringer mic 2200, and custom cabinet for another $350

I defy anyone to show me a better deal for $1650.

thanks but the original listing specifically states that it's the passive Captivator. Only distinction from there would be the native tuning, 20 or 17.5hz.

Your $1200 price is excellent.

People are outright foolish for skipping over this to buy a typical $1000K sub.

And you are foolish for selling it. tongue.gif

I'm actually just curious as to what you were comparing the original price to? The passive Captivator 2400 is only $1500, not 1800. Also curious as to why Gorilla said 4000 watt when the Cap can only take 2400 watts for the powered version from JTR's website. (And since this is the Passive version, it can also take 2400)

If one is going to make a simplistic assessment of the value of different alignments, it would be that sealed/IB goes the lowest, at the highest cost per dB; horns have the lowest cost per dB at the expense of size, and vented box characteristics lie in between the other two. None is inherently superior across the board, neither is any inherently inferior across the board. The one to use is the one that fits your response and output needs, available space and bank account. -BFM

This particular model was mated with a 4,000 watt amp in active form. The box is tuned to 20hz instead of 17.5hz like the newer models. The wood veneer adds $300 to the price as a custom option.

This is the equivalent of what we heard at the Gorilla83 meet.

This sub is rated at 4000 watts RMS and 7,200 watts peak according to the original specs on JTR website. However without a HPF properly in place on the passive unit it won't handle that much wattage without soft bottoming.

Ah. I thought black oak was the default finish option. If not, what is?

Also, so does this mean that Jeff limited the newer Captivators from 400 watts to 2400? If so, why? Was it just because of the newer designs/advancements which meant 4000 watts wasn't really necessary anymore?

The standard finish is a black industrial bed-liner type finish. I believe the drivers are the same now as they were last year, Jeff just changed the amp out from the 4000W version to the 2400W version in 2012. One can get nearly ~3db of the same output with the 2400W model and I'm sure it makes things easier for Jeff since he uses the same amp in the Captivator S1. cool.gif
