Carver Amazing Loudsepeakers

Carver Amazing Loudspeakers Platinum Edition

These are the speakers I read about when I was much younger and got to hear
them live at the Consumer Electronics Show in Chicago when they were first
introduced. Unfortunately, I could not afford them at the time. Then life
happened. Fast forward 25 years. Scanning ebay, craigslist and a few other
sites I locate a pair while on vacation in Florida. And then I see they are
only 3 miles away and now within my bugetary constraints.

The nice gentlemen who was the original owner expressed dismay and was
deeply saddened that he "had" to let them go as they were downsizing.... Of
course, I felt that his loss was my gain, but as I listened to his words and
the tone of his voice and realized I would someday be in this same position.
That day has come....

I will say these are the best sounding speakers I have ever heard. There
are tons of reviews which speak to this so I won't go into more detail.
Speakers and audio quality are inherently subjective and rely on many
extraneous factors that form the total listening experience. The audio
source, the connected equipment, the ROOM, the listeners disposition, and
did I mention the ROOM. Lots of other things come into play and like love
at first sight, for many, these easily fall into love at first listen.

The truth is that I am reluctant to part with them, but now the time has
come. Below I will detail everything I know about them, good and bad. They
are a prize possession and I would like them to find a good, nurturing home
to continue their journey.

From what I have been able to tell these are the revised Platinum version
with the 60" ribbons and 4 woofers per panel. The overall condition I feel
is excellent especially when considering their age. There are a couple of
scuffs along the bottom edge that touches the floor which is more than
common. They were carefully transported from Florida to
Kentucky and have had one subsequent move to their current residence.
Grills and cloth also in Excellent condition.

On the back there is some duct tape that is securing speaker leads. I asked
the original owner and he indicated that he placed it there because he was
hearing some "vibrations" when he first got them and thought it was the wire
vibrating against the panel. It turned out that he had something else in
his listening room that was vibrating on a nearby shelf which he removed.
He never removed the tape.

I have never disassembled any part of these speakers as there has never
been a need to. They have not been played in just over 3 years for various
reasons, which include life issues and a changing array of components. They
have been carefully cleaned all the while. I have never noticed the buzzing
or other anomalies that occur with these models after age has taken its

They do require a robust amplifier to make them "sing". The physical size
does not necessarily indicate how loud they will be. I would recommend at
least 200 watts per channel. The Carver equalizer is also included along
with the original manuals.

The market appears to think these are worth between $1200-1800 a set. I am
offering them at $1100 to eliminate the haggling and to pass along a good
value to the next owner.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I cannot ship these so be
prepared for a local pickup if you decide to purchase. I do not have the original
shipping containers unfortunately.
