BEWARE! Con man on the forums

So a while back I posted a wanted ad for some 18" subs. On the 21st I received a pm from a guy named Dave 'Davesounds" who said to email this contact, he has some for sale. I emailed the contact and the guy seemed ok but wanted me to pay western union only. I got suspecious and looked at this dave guys account. He just made the account and has zero post. I searched in Google the email he provided and it's the same message in an other forum but his name is Jerome. Check out these pictures. Total scam artist!! Please beware these people are lurking our very own community.

I agree with you 100%. When he started mentioning western union and no paypal, I knew something was up. Just not everyone may know that and I feel bad he is probably pulling this scheme on lots of people all over different forums.

I got a mail from the same cheat. Was asking me to send him money through western union and not PayPal as he is not at up for it and that his wife works for western union so it's easy for him.
Says he can accept bitcoins.
Yes initially davesound did send me his details too

I got one at the beginning of the month from @derrickau who saw my WTB telling me to contact mopiperetired[at]gmail[dot]com for a deal on a good sub. Same deal - guy messages me to buy from "Mark" in "Charlotte NC" the same morning he creates an account on AVS, then never returns. Felt weird, so I never even carried on the conversation.

As we say in retail among local stores, BOLO!

Mr. Pibb > Dr. Pepper > Everything Else
7.1.4 - Marantz SR6011 - LG B6 - HTD Level 3 - PSA S3000i
Oppo 203 - PS4 - Xbox One S - Roku Ultra
60 UHD and counting...

Everyone who’s been contacted by this POS should report it to his local PD. I’m sure they know him.

That is easy enough to do (but somewhat illegal),however he would just sign up for a new gmail account.

The thing to do would be to contact Western Union's fraud division and his local cybercrime division. Between the two of them he would stay pretty busy for a while I would think. The Department of Justice also lists a few other points of contact that would be beneficial. https://www.justice.gov/criminal-cci...property-crime

These guys are so annoying on craigslist too. I started putting "scammers don't waste your time" at the bottom and I can't believe it but it actually helps.

They're always like "i am inquiring on behalf of my employer|husband|cousin|whatever and want to pay you full asking and will send check and have item picked up once check clears" oh and I love the one the other day "i am hearing impaired and want to (same as above)" and when I said yeah call me he became indignant and reminded me he's hearing impaired lol. Oh and he just had emergency medical issue out of town blah blah blah. He actually had a local area code which was a nice touch I thought.

Of course, craigslist reminds everyone not to take any bank checks as it can be fraud and they will still cash it and then come back to you for the money.

I've had really good luck in the last but these type of situations make me nervous to even do business with people.. Especially when the majority of things we buy for our hobby are expensive. Always a risk I guess.

When I searched the email Davesounds gave me, it popped up that email being sent out by a Jerome guy that was fresh on a car forum saying Aaron has this car part for sale. It's not just our forum this guy is doing it all over the place. It's literally a scheme he's playing and who knows how long. This is why he won't use paypal and only western union because we wouldn't be able to file a claim and he'd vanish.

That's kind of where I'm at these days too. I still wouldn't mind selling my 802 Diamonds to explore other options, but the couple times I listed them in various places they seemed to attract every cheat and scammer, not to mention every lowballer on the planet. I mean really, what makes you think I'd be willing to take a $9k third party check by mail...or $1500 cash, a pair of Jordans (that aren't even my size), and your 1970's porn collection.

I guess not many people have that much liquid cash (~$9000), but I'm hesitant for that amount to accept any other form of payment. Scammers are creative these days with even the most "secure" platforms, and I don't trust my limited knowledge of such matters to protect me fully. Cash and carry, baby.

HT: B&W 802 D2 - Martin Logan Focus - DefTech XTR-20BP - Dual SVS SB16 Ultra - Parasound Halo A21 and A31 - Anthem AVM 60 - Samsung UN65JS8500

Office 2CH: Martin Logan Motion 60Xt - Crown XLI 800 - Bluesound Node 2
WAF is currently at DEFCON ORANGE

Haha I dunno that 70s porn collection may be worth something. Jk. If someone doesn't use PayPal and has a reputation from wherever I'm buying I won't mess with it.
