Just wondering if anyone had any information about these Joe Kane-endorsed screens that DaLite was showing off at CEDIA. What is the benefit of these in comparison to some of DaLite's similar products?
@Josh, wondering the same thing. I'd suggest that you check out Mark Haflich's last 20 posts. He's posted some quite positive comments on the 0.9 gain screen he's seen as CEDIA.
I was just going to post a "heads up" about these screens as well. The only eyewitness report I've read is m.haflich and he was very enthusiastic, saying the screens allowed easily visible gains in image clarity, along with great uniformity and no visible screen artifacts.
this could be the screen i've been waiting for. I was surprised there were no posts here until recently. Anyone know when it will be available? I'm glad to see Joe Kane really is a video purist, I always doubted that since he always used the studiotek screens which clearly have visble texture and reduced sharpness. I can't wait to see the Affinity.

"The JKP Affinity HD Progressive screen material is expected to be available this fall for a "small premium" (about 25%) over Da-Lite's regular screen pricing."
I am thinking Damn I just took out my old screen and put in a huge high power, and got rid of 14 other screens I had floating around here.
Its about time DaLite come up with something new. I always love the fit and finish of DaLite frames. Knowing how meticulous Joe Kane is about products... (other than organizing his disks better) I am sure it will be a winner.
Looks like they are going to control this product as well to approved dealers.
If its 25% more that still makes it 50% less than a Stewart?
Just kidding I happen to like the Studiotek screen a lot but less specular would be better. I wonder if it really is .9 or the fact that it is less specular one perceives it as a less bright screen.
Most HP owners (or those who have seen it) who have chimed in on various threads state that they do not notice a sheen/screen texture. A small number of members have said they do notice it, and I'm one of them. At least under the viewing condition of a very bright projector at relatively short throw and a relatively small image size (perhaps about 6 to 6.5' wide image), I did notice the screen texture at times when looking at light colored (e.g., white, light yellow) content. It was not nearly as noticeable, however, as the sheen I see when looking at most RPTV's, with their really high gain screens. Again, most owners who have posted say they don't notice it or its really minimal.

I certainly notice the texture on my HP, but it is certainly worth it considering the brightness and that I can run a 14' wide screen with 1100 hours on my RS1 without any problems. If projectors get brighter or they can produce a gain material without any texture, I'll be ready to get in line!

Man, that is amazing that you can run your old-bulb RS-1 on a what?...14' screen (Hi-Power). Do you have the bulb on HIGH, and is it relatively short-throw? How far do you sit? I wonder what kind of brightness you currently have on the screen? Oh, how significant is what you view as "texture." Most folks are not seeing this. Thanks for your response !
I've had a hard time deciding on whether I see a texture on my HP screen.
There are times I think "this really is one of the most transparent screens I've seen" in terms of not being able to "spot" the screen surface. Other times, like last night, in some bright areas there did seem to be a sort of glaze or glare.
Comparing the HP to unity gain screens, and my Carada samples, is like comparing a "glossy" photograph to a "matte" photograph. I admit I've always had a preference for matte over glossy.
It's weird with the HP, even though the surface can often seem transparent, it's collection of attributes and idiosyncrasies makes me more "aware of the screen" when I'm using it than many other screens.

I got a few sample here from other manifacturer. I even got a High Contrast Cinema Vision material that have a texture that is unberable for viewing imho... I found that the HP was the most 'Transparent' material i could get. Even with LCD TV there's a 'Texture' on the screen. It's a matter of being tolerable or not to you
