Anyone actual own one of these screens and have any opinions? Have read the reviews on AVS but don't see any posts from folks that own it / use it regularly...

Thinking about pairing this with a Panny AE4000...

Thanks for any thoughts...

Johnny

I have had the 0.6 gain screen since November last year. 106", paired with the ae4000u in a windowless basement bat cave theater. It's awesome.

It is a pretty good material. Really requires a completely dark environment. When i say really dark, it's exactly that. Dark walls, floor, ceiling. Pretty much dark anything in the room!

The only screen better than the Affinity would be Stewart's Studiotek 100....slightly more uniform. But the same proviso's listed by Benito apply...totally dark room.

I have the 110" .09 gain screen paired with a Epson UB 9500 in a completely dark room and, for me, it's perfect!

...finally retired and spending time in my HT!!!

My equipment consists of:

Epson 9500 UB Projector; 110" JKP Affinity Screen; Panasonic BD30 Player, Toshiba HDA1 Player; Definitive Speakers (Center, Towers, Rear); Onkyo 608 A/V Receiver; Nevo Q50 Remote; TW HD Cable Box.

I've seen the 0.9 gain material with an Epson 9700UB throwing the image. In a reasonably well-controlled environment, the picture was outstanding. Per my dealer, Da-Lite is working on a micro-perf'd version of the 1.1 gain material. If a sample becomes available, I plan to compare it to a couple of weave samples.

With the Epson and the screen, my upscaled SDs thru my HDA1, the picture is perfect. As I've said before, if there was no BD, the SDs, thru the Epson and on the JKP screen would be enough for me.

Well... Pulled the trigger and matched the JKP 106" with an Epson 8700UB instead of the Panny... Love this setup (just got it up and running today).... Signed. .... Living the dream!

0.9.... Was really up in the air with that part but settled on the .9 .. Have to say that I think it's perfect! Obviously every setup is different but because I have 100% light control, I thought this would give me the best yield. Would have gone lower but still wanted the occasional sports to 'pop'...

I was going to get the 1.1 gain but I got a SI Gamma HD 1.1 and it looks great even tho the JKP would be slightly better. I now understand that the screen is more important than the projector. Having an excellent screen makes the projector so much better. My Acer H5360, which cost me $400, looks so much better than when I had it up with my Da Lite HP screen. A neutral screen gives you the image you are supposed to see.

for what purposes are the 0.6 and the 1.1...?

... if the 0.9 is perfect in a completely dark room?

Sorry Coup - didn't understand the question ... Guessing the 1.1 is used with some ambient light and the .6 is trying to push the black levels...? That help as to what you were asking?

Yeah that is my thinking too, but I'm not sure?

My understanding from this thread was the .9 screen being perfect in a dark room. So for what other rooms you would wanna have the .6 or the 1.1? Not just for a projector that is to bright (.6) nor a projector being to dim (1.1).

If I had a normal living room whit white walls, I would choose the 1.1 which helps me produce punchier image or the 0.6 to produce better blacks?

You got it! .6 brings out those blacks even more... 1.1 would make your image more bright. My .9 works great for my totally dark room... As it offers multi functionality.... Really depends on your room and what you are trying to accomplish.
