I'm in the process of speccing out my home theater PJ setup.
There are children in my future, and I am incredibly nervous about one day finding that they have drawn on the screen with permanent marker or done some other sort of damage, so I want very much to have an electric screen that tucks itself away nicely when not in use.
I also want a nice center channel speaker (I am thinking of a wall-mounted Ascend Acoustics CMT-340C SE
). I would prefer to mount it behind the center of an acoustically transparent screen.
I have only done a small amount of searching, but my findings have consistently been that all AT screens are fixed. Is this true, or have I simply missed it in my searches?
Secondarily, how important is acoustic transparency to a non-audiophile that just wants to enjoy a good movie? I don't want it to sound muffled, but I'm not going to be hooking up a microphone + oscilloscope and comparing waveforms. If I put the speaker behind, say, one of these
, how bad is it going to be? Has anyone tried such a setup?
Alternatively, I'm thinking of upgrading to more powerful front mains and just doing a 4.1 setup with speakers on either side of the screen. I think I'd end up spending less that way anyway!
