I know there are still a lot of variables to help determine best screen out there. I'll still do research to determine that.

Some Background:
The projector I'll be using is an Epson 8350 about ~14 - 15 ft from the wall that it will be projecting on. It will be in my basement which does have some windows but they will have blinds and curtains on them - some ambiant light. This will not be in a dedicated HT room but will have light control with the shades and recessed lighting. This is not the only TV/PJ in the house but I would like to use it during the day time to watch football, movies, etc.

Which sub ~$700 screens do you recommend based on this info? I would like to go with a 120" screen without breaking the bank. I see Visual Apex has fixed framed screens for 399 (running a special for additional 15% off) Cinema white with 1.1. gain. What are your thoughts on this screen?

Thanks for the info!

Sub $500, look at Jamestown screens. If you can go a little higher there are some much better options out there.

What price range do I need to go into - how about sub 750?

Which ones do you recommend?

I just edited the thread...

I own a 120" from apex. It is a good screen from what I can tell. I recently retrofitted it with spandex fabric because I went AT route. The picture quality on the original was significantly better, at least to my eyes.

The frame is made of aluminum which is a big plus in terms of weight, keeping the screen well tensioned, and the need for bracing in the middle of the screen often used in wooden frames to prevent warping.

My PJ is Epson 8100 which is the model one generation before yours

Have you looked at the screens from Monoprice? They are definitely in your range....I'm thinking of getting one as well!

IMHO, if you can avoid high level of ambient light and are not interested in acoustically transparent screens, there is probably nothing in the price range that would make big difference in picture quality compared to VA or Monoprice screens.

In addition to regular fixed frame screens, Monoprice offers what they call Multi-Format frames. It is basically a masking system that allows switching between 16:9 and 2.35:1 formats.
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10829&cs_id=1082910&p_id=7969&seq=1&format=2

If you want AT screen (you can hide the speakers behind the screen) then Jamestown frames with Seymour Center Stage XD fabric is within your budget.

Vutec Elegante (white or gray material) in a 123" diag (60x107 image) with beveled velvet covered frame would come in at around $750.
