I have been on this forum for quite a while but have not posted anything. I bought my Panasonic VT50 based on the feedback on this forum and have just recently taken the step into projectors. My first projector (JVS X35) is on the way but needed to make some decisions on the screen.
Here is my set up:
JVC X35 (celing mount)
120" screen (135" if I can) 16:9 ratio unless others feel a 2.35 would be better
17x21 completely light controlled room (dedicated theater room), 9 foot ceilings
Dark brown carpet and walls (may eventually be repainted to darker reds and blacks)
Seating will be at 15'
Projector mounted around 16-17' unless I have to move it
I am looking for a solid screen in which my priority is picture quality, deep blacks, and accurate color production. I watch about 85% movies (blu ray), 10% sports and some tv, and 5% 3D movies. Of course I am in love with the Black Diamond series especially after seeing this projector on that screen but it is a bit out of my price range. I continue to go back and forth with the gain for this screen. Sometimes I think a 1.0 gain or 1.1 gain would be sufficient but then I move towards a higher gain 1.4-1.8. I want to make sure that it is bright enough to potentially watch the occasional 3D but want to make sure the blacks are solid. I have gotten use to my VT50. I would prefer to stay under 1k but am open for suggestions. I want to do this right as I have clearance from the wife but might not get that clearance again for a while.
Thanks in advance for all your suggestions.
Anybody with any advice? I know there are some people out there that can help.
i have a similar setup and would like to hear some opinions as well
Never got any responses but based on the feedback I received from Mike at AVS I will be going with a 1.4 gain white fixed frame screen 120". Still deciding on brand.
Depending on your budget a good choice would be the Carada Precision Series Brilliant White screen especially if you looking for 1.4 gain.
