So the last time we moved, I took extra care to pack and protect my Hi Power Da-Snap screen in the moving truck, but despite that effort, somehow it got damaged, the surface rubbed off one spot really bad, and subsequent spots where it was rolled up. This was two years ago, AVS said Da-Lite could get new material on it for around $500, but that meant being without a screen for a couple of weeks so I didn't bother, I'd get around to it later, you know. Well here I'm wanting to repair the screen and find out Dalite no longer makes the 2.8 material, now it's 2.4 with a texture to it, I guess everyone was too happy with the 2.8 or something.

I use a 147in screen with a JVC RS46 projector, and do not want a smaller screen(size matters in HT), so the gain is needed. I'm awaiting a screen sample of Severtsons Stellar White 2.2 material, Stewarts Ultramatte 200, and I'm awaiting material from a couple other companies. While they are nearly as bright, they sparkle, like a lot. Just for grins I got a sample of the new 2.4 hi power, and it compares favorably to the others, it's brighter still and doesn't sparkle. I don't notice the texture from the seating position, and it appears to be too fine to possibly notice from more than a few feet away. So is there some other companies material I'm missing? And is the general consensus that Hi Power still beats most others?

Another reason I'd like to get away from hi power, it would be nice to mount the projector close to the ceiling, asthetically I'd prefer that to it hanging 5ft from the ceiling as it does now.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

+1

This is the only con about my HP screen. Makes it impossible to play games like Rock Band. Are there any high gain screens that DON'T sparkle and is just as good as my 2.8 HP?

The frustration continues... Today I got requested screen samples from Elite Screens, their Cinewhite(which looks grey when white is projected), the Airbright 5D, and the Powergain 1.8. After mounting the samples to compare with my high power, the Stewart Ultramatte 150 and Severtson cinema white, I got my hopes up off the bat because the powergain material is very very bright, nearly as bright as my high power! And it doesn't seem to sparkle any more than high power does! However after a few minutes of viewing it became obvious it has a pretty bad texture to it. I'll need to view some more, but I'd say the sparklies with other brands would be preferable to the texture. frown.gif

Oh and the 5D material looks pretty good, no texture, minimal sparklies, but solid colors on it look... silver lol.

Still waiting on the Severtson 2.2 sample, and Stewart has lost interest in providing me an Ultramatte 200 sample, the guy won't return emails.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
