About to be first-time projector owner here...

I was going to pick up a Sony HW50ES (manufacturer claimed brightness of 1700 ANSI lumens), and needed a screen to go with it. Was considering the Da-Lite HP 2.4 gain screen that people seem to like.

My room is not light-controlled which is the main reason for me considering a high gain screen. I am able to mount the projector near the middle of the screen in terms of height. The throw distance will be 14.5', Seating around 10.5-11', screen size I think will be 106" (1.43 seating distance to screen width ratio... is that ok?). Plugging in the numbers in the Projector Central calculator (, it says the image brightness will be 49 ft-L eek.gif.

Of course it'll be lower than that in real life, but still, seems pretty high, even for a room with ambient light. Is it too bright? If so, do you have another screen recommendation? Thanks!
