I'm new to the screens forum and could use some help. I'm sure this is not the right place to offer gear for sale, but I have never sold anything on AVS or ebay and these seem beyond Craigslist...

We have moved and I'm trying to set up a new theater room. The screens from our last theater were sized for the room. The new room has a larger screen wall and I want to have Da-Lite custom size a 133 inch wide High power screen. It's pretty spendy...

I want to try to sell the two screens I have from the last set up:

The first is a 110 inch diagonal 16 x 9 High Power (2.8) Cosmopolitan Electrol in black with a 6 inch black drop (adjustable)..

The second one 106 inch diagonal 16 x 9 Optoma Greywolf grey pull-down that I used for daytime sports.

Both are in perfect shape.

I checked ebay, but all I could find were new screens.
Please, can anyone direct me where to post them for sale and give me an idea about what they are worth?

You can PM me, so as to not take up forum space.
Thanks

I would wait to sell the 2.8 as the new one may disappoint you!! You might want to think about dual screen setup with a new HP scope and the old 16:9 2.8 for HD format.

Shipping cost on screen are pricey, they have to go freight.

I just bought a 110 model C HP 2.8 from craigs list as the guy could not sell it due to shipping cost. I got it for $300.
Keep the 2.8 it is the best screen of it's type and the you will kick yourself later for getting rid of it.

BTW of the 2.8 is a few years old, a full cleaning will make it look amazing!!

Do some searches on the forum for HP to see the issues people are having with the new 2.4 HP.

It's good advice, but the custom width (133") scope High Power is very expensive.
It seems that Da-Lite will cut down a stock width 16 x 9 screen to scope length at minimal charge. However the size (133") that I want is between the 116 inch and the 139 inch widths. The 116" is only 10 inches bigger than what I have now. The 139" won't fit the room...
When you start asking for custom widths the price goes way up...eek.gif
I was hoping to sell the package of two screens to offset the cost of the new one.
Perhaps I'll keep the Electric and try to sell the Greywolf on Craigslist.
I could also package our old projector (works perfectly/newer bulb). It's a Benq PE8720 in pristine shape with all parts, manual, remote and ceiling mount. It was about $7K in 2006. Super sharp DLP, but no 3D. PM me if interested.

Anybody else have an idea on how to sell the screens?

All Dalite screens are made to order, and custom sizes are just priced as the next size up screen.

Thanks for the incite.
While it's basically true, there is more to it. They charge for modifying the length, adding mask, various mount and drop options, then for shipping.
By the time you total it up, it's a big number. On a screen like the 133" scope, I'll end up paying for the largest size offered (139") and going up from there.
So, I hope to sell my two other screens (and perhaps the projector too) and recoup some of the costs.
I just don't know how to go about it, and I was hoping to not reinvent the wheel...

I thought I would bump this one time, then get out of everyone's hair .smile.gif

We live in Eugene, OR.
If you are anywhere on the west coast, and have a pick up truck, then i encourage you to consider the screen(s) and or Benq PE8720. They are currently set up and you can see them in action prior to buying.

I'll make a great deal for some AVSer.

I thought I would try here before going the Craigslist route...

Sort of "keeping them in the family".

Thanks

Hi Craig,
Thanks for the suggestion. I have thought of it.
The issue is that I don't know what I'm doing...
How much is the gear worth? I see the few screens posted there from $150 to $2000+...

Can you chime in on what they are worth.? From a little reading, it's clear that the 110" HP (2.8) Cosmo is very well thought of.
It's maybe $1300 new delivered (black with extra drop). How much is one worth, you pick up (Eugene,OR)?
The Greyhawk, I'll give away ($50). We have a large flatscreen for day use now, so I'm not using it.
However, I have no idea what to ask for the Cosmo or the Benq PE8720...
Any help out there?

On local Craigslist I'd ask 50% of what you paid. I think I sold a used Firehawk at 45% of in store price. I also included the offer to come help hang it for a newbie buyer but didn't have to fulfill that offer.

Thanks for the help. I discounted it way below that level. perhaps if I was willing to ship it, I would ask more.

I just took Craig's advice and posted on the AVS Classified.http://www.avsforum.com/t/1470986/da-lite-optoma-benq#post_23270132

INMO, it's an incredible buy for $500. All equipment works perfectly. I paid about $7K for it a few years ago. If you view it from >12 feet back, it's indistinguishable from 1080p.
On the HP Cosmo, the PE8720 is like a 110 inch Plasma TV.

It's a way for someone to set up a "turnkey" high end theater for a song.
The catch is: no 3D, and you have to make the trip to Eugene, but that's a "bonus"...

If anyone wants it, PM me and I'll send pictures, etc.
I'll wait a few days before trying Craigslist.

Best.
E.

I think for many the package of two screen is just too confusing and something they wouldn't want. I would just say take your pick of the two screens and sell the other separately.

I can see your point, however the Grey screen looks great during the day. They are up and mounted one behind the other. It's easy to show them. I use both. One for day, one for night. They are almost the same size and fit the last room. I'm going to 133" width (custom) in this set up, or I wouldn't sell.
I feel as if I'm giving them away at this price. The reason is that I just don't want to deal with piecing them out. I want someone to stop by, check all the stuff out and haul it away. I'm sure that someone can resell what they are not interested in and make some $, if they want to take the time...
I've already had some interest. As a result, I've firmed up the terms. I'm firm at $500. If it sells, it sells, if not, then I'll try Craigslist.
No Pay Pal, no checks. Certified or cash. If you check them out and decide not to take them, then I refund the $.
I'm insisting that someone see everything work, so it will mean a trip to Eugene check it all out. After that, you can arrange to get it home any way you want.
At this price you can probably arrange shipping and still come out OK...
Best,
E.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the feedback. The responses I've got have encouraged a change of thought. I'm going to keep the Cosmo (2.8) and sell the GrayHawk and Benq PE8720.
I'll mod the add today.
Best,
E.
