I contacted Elite today to inquire about their acoustically transparent screen material, 1080p2. It's available at Costco for, what appears to be, a great price.

In short, it's garbage and the best choice is to upgrade to their 4k material at a considerable cost increase. This per Elite.

I would not buy an Elite product if it was the best thing available or the last thing on earth.

Even my local dealer referred to in the chat thread did not have good things to say about them. Actually steered me away from anything Elite, period.

I hope this info helps anyone who is considering Elite AT 1080p or 1080p2 screen material. Or for that matter anything Elite. Costco will get a copy as well.

Thank you for contacting Sales department, how may I help you?

Hello, this is Doug how may I help you

You
:
Hi Doug- I will be sitting 9 ft away from my screen, using a Ben Q 10w70 projector. Will your 1080p2 AT screen work?

Doug-Sales&Tech Supt.
:
So you need an acoustic screen? You are putting speakers behind the screen.

You
:
Yes- I need an AT screen

Doug-Sales&Tech Supt.
:
What size screen are you looking at? How high is your ceiling?

You
:
8.5 feet

Doug-Sales&Tech Supt.
:
Are you looking at using a fixed frame screen?

You
:
Yes, the equivalent of your economy screen frame, I forget the name

Doug-Sales&Tech Supt.
:
The sable frame?

You
:
The ones that sell at Costco. Need a link?

Doug-Sales&Tech Supt.
:
sure that helps

You

You
:
diag size might go down to more of a 120" range, but not for sure yet

Doug-Sales&Tech Supt.
:
Matt ok Yes that is too large for your area. Please let me explain I like to start from the floor and work up. So you need about 3-4' below the screen as blank space. I subtracted that from the total height of 102" leaves 66" for the screen height. You need to subtract about 6" because you need wiggle room near the top of the screen to clip screen on bracket. So that leaves you about 60"

You
:
Gotcha - ! Going by those guidelines my max screen size is 122", which is fine. I'm concerned with seeing the material of the 1080p2, since I'll only be sitting 9' from the screen

You
:
I have full light control. Will be watching movies/TV in the room

Doug-Sales&Tech Supt.
:
So that leaves R120Wh2-A1080P2 as the largest screen.

You
:
Sometimes there will be some light other times total darkness

Doug-Sales&Tech Supt.
:
Well that is unproven. That may give you what is called a moire effect. If you get the 4k material, which is available from Home Video Library Electronics and you get the A4k material. I can guarantee no moire effect. I would speak with Kenny Ward (503) 760-6488

Doug-Sales&Tech Supt.
:
Home Video Library is located in Portland.

You
:
Understand. But the price difference is significant, and I can get other AT brand screens that will not moire. For less than the 4k material. The price through Costco is real good. Hence my first choice. What seating distance do you recommend to be at so moire is not an issue.

Doug-Sales&Tech Supt.
:
not a question of distance. Difference of material. A1080P2 holes are not as small. Here is a link to difference in Acoustics screens. http://elitescreens.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&id=47&Itemid=175&lang=en

You
:
If not a question of distance than how do you make your 1080p2 material work without moire?

Doug-Sales&Tech Supt.
:
Wish it was that easy. I do not know how the screen material will work with Benq. I do know that it will not have moire with the A4k.

You
:
Hmmmm..... it's your product. What do you recommend?

Doug-Sales&Tech Supt.
:
I would spend the extra and get the A4k the screen looks really good with this material.

You
:
So you're saying that regardless, your 1080p2 material is prone to moire?

Doug-Sales&Tech Supt.
:
yes that is true.

You
:
Well, thanks for being honest. Why do sell sell it you can't even recommend it?

Doug-Sales&Tech Supt.
:
I wish I knew that too. I just know I have seen both in house and the A4k seemed worth it.

You
:
Well, thanks for all your info.

The Elite tech did the right thing. Would you prefer he lied to you?

I'm not a fan of their product, due to quality issues, but my experiences with them as professionals and human beings have been good. The guy steered you right and cost his company a sale to make sure you were happy..

This is actually a GOOD story, not a cautionary tale, imo.

Doug's looking out for you, brah. Props to him. At the end of the day it's better to shell out some more coin and be happy than to save a bit of cash and kick yourself every single time you watch a movie. He actually saved you money in the end.
