I have samples of the Neve, Studio Tech 130 G3, Firehawk, and Tiberon, I do not have samples of the Snowmatte as my room is not a Bat Cave. I have control of ambient lighting but the walls and ceiling are still a bit too light for Snowmatte.

There is very little difference between the Studio Tech and the Neve, the Neve is a tad more white with the Studio Tech being a tad more cream in color. I cannot see any difference in actual movie use. they both seem to be adequate for their intended use. I see no visible pattern on either of the "white" screen fabrics; but my sample is only 8X11 inches each.

I am projecting onto a dark brown wall with no screen currently. I am still evaluating different fabrics and sizes before I plunk down my hard earned $$$$ on a screen from Stewart...too much money on the table to make a snap judgement.

Im in the same situation. I have a carada cw and I can see the texture of the screen. I have jkp affinity samples and they are smooth and no texture at all. If I am going to spend over $1000 on a screen, I might as well get the best. My short list is the JKP 1.1, Snomatt, and Neve. I am going to get a sample of the EluneVision Studio Reference 4K screen too to compare.

It's extremely smooth. Saw video projected on a full sized one at the Stewart Filmscreen training / tour. I want one to replace my 16:9 Da Lite HCCV screen. Very clean looking image.

Not Craig, but I can answer your question. The Tiburon is just as smooth as the Neve. It is a light gray screen, so it helps with the black levels a little bit. The gain on this screen is 0.92, so it does not hurt you much on brightness. It looked very good with some ambient light on in the room. In a darkened environment, I had a hard time telling the difference between the Neve and the Tiburon. The whites looked about the same.

So far I'm very happy with my new Neve screen. It's brighter than my previous screen, and the image is very sharp. It's more or less invisible surface texture wise. At least from 1.36 screen widths. Watched an episode of The Pacific last night on it, and it was super sharp and clean looking.

My switch from grey to white screens is complete !! smile.gif

I watched Life of Pi on the new Neve 1.1 screen last night with some friends. Top tier Blu Rays look incredibly sharp on it. It's an excellent screen surface IMO. smile.gif

Can the Neve be custom sized and what is a price range. Looking for something that is 54" tall by 108" wide. Prefer not a pulldown.

No custom sizes for the Cima line.

54" x 108 " - that is not 16:9 or 2.35:1 - why exactly do you want a screen that size?

I know it's a combination of the 2. I'm looking at this as an option because Theatre paint looks like My Little Pony urinated all over the screen wall and glitter is everywhere.

You'd need to go Studiotek 100 and then you can get any size you want.

Craig,

Why did you opt for a grey screen initially and what made you change to a white screen ?

Thanks !

I have had the Tiburon screen for 1 year and have been very happy with it. I have never seen the Neve per se, so I can't compare and contrast the two screens.

Rogier.

This is an excellent question. When I first got into home theater over 10 years ago, not only were projectors not that great contrast wise, I also never had a dedicated theater space. It was always a " media room ". Compromises had to be made. The décor wasn't dark, there was occasionally light in the room. The picture suffered. I started using grey screens pretty early on. Overall they just looked better. DLP projectors at least looked like they had better contrast, and what little on / off contrast they had was preserved by the screen, rather than washing out due to reflections from white walls etc. The picture looked pretty good. I was happy.

Then, when I came back to work for AV Science I decided to see what I could do to improve my home theater. I have a dedicated theater, but it was setup more like a media room. My SIM Lumis throws an outstanding picture. Could I make it look even better? I owe a lot of this to Rich Harkness. I read his theater build thread and realized I'd become complacent regarding my theater. Rich explained how and why he had picked the Stewart StudioTek 130 G3 screen over the Firehawk G3 screen. I was using a Firehawk screen myself. So I got a sample of StudioTek 130 and devised a screen sample holder that would allow me to put the sample in front of my Firehawk. The blacks / contrast on the StudioTek looked terrible compared to my Firehawk. I grabbed a big " police " type flashlight ( lots of D cells - bright ) and stood at the screen. I did the " flashlight test ". Lots of things in the room reflected back onto the screen, and washed out the StudioTek.. First I decided to cover the beige carpet with black carpet rugs from Walmart. That worked well, but the ST 130 still didn't look as good as the FH. Then I had a giant rug made that covered the entire front 2/3's of the theater. Better. Next, I re-painted the ceiling and the side walls darker grey. Now the ST was starting to look as good or better overall than the FH. I then painted the back walls much darker, put a black MDF board in front of the popcorn machines glass case, hung black curtains and Protostar material on part of the back wall, and hung another red velvet curtain over a white closet door. Now the blacks on space movies etc. looked as good on the StudioTek 130 sample as they did on the Firehawk. I then switched screens. I first replaced my 2.35:1 Firehawk with a 2.35:1 StudioTek, and I also replaced my 16:9 High Contrast Cinema Vision screen with a 16:9 Neve 1.1. The Lumis looks totally awesome on these screens ! smile.gif

Hi I am looking at a quote from Magnolia which includes a 110" Stewart Cima Neve motorized screen for $2839.98

Is this a good deal?

I am not sure whether to go with Tiburon or a Neve.

What kind of difference will I be able to observe between this and a cheaper screen that's around 1000-1500 dollars?

Choice of material deepends on room color, ambient light level, screen size and projector. I would select the neve in most cases though.

The pro's over cheaper screens are mostly complete absence of visible screen texture and sparkles and less waves and creases. (Roll down screens are very sensitive to developing waves if not tensioned properly and the attachment point to the rolling tube often impart visible horizontal creases on the screen material.

Room color: white/grey

Ambient light: there is some (because it is not a closed room)

Screen size: 110"

Projector: Panasonic AE8000 (2500 lumens, MSRP 2300)

Are there non-electric tensioned ones?

Good news!!!

Do me a favor as my screen will not go on the wall for another week as work needs to be done...

When the screen is out...

How far from the back wall that its mounted on does the actual screen hang?

Can't seem to locate this info at any diagram....

I need to get over some sort of blinds and need to make sure I'm leaving enough room in my planning.

Thanks
