Hello All,

Just wondering what type of screen is best to remove the black bars on wide screen movies. Is it best to mask the screen using a masking system like the Stewart 4-way making or just using a 2:35:1 screen?
Are there any disadvantages using one from another?

Masking top and bottom bars on a 16.9 screen does not make sense to me, you are essentially covering black bars with black bars like the Monoprice multi-format screen does for example.

However masking a 2.35 screen on the left and right of the screen for 16.9 content does make perfect sense which that Stewart 4-way you mentioned does.

Personally I am sold on a 2.35 screen and just masking the left and right via curtains, pull down shades or other means as that Stewart is way out of my current price range.

Masking a 1.78:1 screen for 2.35:1 footage makes sense to many. There is not best fit screen shape, it all depends on what you view regularly. Masking the empty part of the screen will always makes for a nicer looking image.

I refer the OP to the below thread which will hopefully help him.
