Hey everyone. I am currently in the process of putting together a a living room projector project for my father. His living room is quite large at 25x23. He really wants a BenQ W1070 and I was searching for screens in his budget and after looking around it seems that a spectrum2 would be a good choice sine it is FG backed so no curling (or limited). One side of the room has big windows that have that option to be blocked a little with plantation shutters. My real question is screen size. I know the closer the projector is to the screen the brighter it will be and might help with ambient light since during the day light control will be limited at best. We could do 100-120'' and looking at the projector calculator for Throw distance, the 120 sits back around another foot. Not being experience with projectors, how big of a difference will this make in terms of brightness? Would you guys suggest going with a 100 or 110 becuase of the shorter throw? Or do you think the difference would be marginal and just go with the 120? Thank you for any help!!

Cheers
Chris

Well Chris, It seems that as long as you can limit the amount of light coming into the room during the day, your projector has more than enough brightness for a 120 inch screen with a 1.1 gain.

However, If your father is planning on 3D viewing, the 120 may be too much screen for the projector. For 3D, 100 inches seems to be the practical limit.

Hey Ben! Thanks for the heads up! I'm gathering that for 3D it takes away from the brightness? So 120 the image would just be to faint? Not really a huge fan of 3D do you think with this projector it would be best to go with 100 so you could have the option or go for a larger screen for more general vieiwing? I know this a personal preference question. Have you seen 3D with this projector? Would you feel it would be worthwhile? Thanks again!

Well, since you're not going to use the 3d very often, I'd say go for the 120. I have seen 3d with a 1070 on a 120 inch screen. It looked very good on a screen with a 2.4 gain. I don't know how it would perform with a 1.1 gain screen in a room with some light present. It would probably be fine at night.

If your looking for projector in a bright situation

I would go with the HD25-LV

I was in the same situation as you a few months ago with have a full wall of windows one side

Choose the Optoma won't regret it a bit!!

Hey rayan I haven't looked much into that PJ but some reviews were saying that the focus can be a pain on the sides of the screen... Can't find as much about the 25 compared to the benq bit the extra lumens might really help!

I can't say that isn't true but if your setting it up spend 10-20 minutes to get it perfect and your set.

Thanks rayan! Btw does anyone actually own the spectrum2 elite screen? I get conflicting info about built in ir/rf into it. I see they sell a remote kit for 150 but some reviews mention that it's actually the vmax pro with out the remote... But still has ir built in so harmony remote should work with it... Can anyone confirm this?! Thanks a lot everyone!
