is there any sort of transparent protective covering for a projector screen that doesn't obscure the projected image in any way?

Nice idea. Never heard of such a thing or if it's even possible. Would be a big seller if it did exist. Maybe it does and i don't know it. Anybody?

Sure. It's called an electric screen. If you have a situation where the screen could get damaged when not watching it ( kids or pets for instance ), having a retractable screen is the solution.
