Jamestown

Has anyone received a Jamestown screen lately? I knew from reading others threads it would take awhile but....since May 24th.

I've been waiting for just the screen material to upgrade, ordered on the 7th of June. he hasn't responded to any of my emails since. I managed to get a hold of him on the phone, he said his mother was in the hospital and he hasn't been able to get anything done, but my screen should be on the most recent shipment. This was a few weeks ago, still no response since then...I should've just ordered it from Seymour AV.

My screen is supposed to be here today. I can understand about family or whatever but someone should let it be known, cancel orders or something. Shame because I hear they are decent screens hence why I ordered in the first place. I was expecting a month or maybe month and a half but yikes lol.

It's pretty clear now that this man is in way over his head at this point in time. He started a business with the best of intentions and it's ballooned well beyond his control. When a business situation gets to this point there's only two things to do. Either stop taking new orders so you can catch up, or get some funding so you can expand your business to meet the demand.
It's also pretty clear that James is doing a lot, or all, of the work himself. This situation has to change soon or his business will fail.
One of my neighbors has one of his screens and tells me that James is a very earnest man. I hope he can overcome these growing pains, as this is a critical time in the life of his business.

I called him a month ago about a curve screen and talk to him. He seem nice but he told me he was 2 weeks out on orders. That seems to be a lie. He also told me a curve screen works great with just a standard projector and no anamorphic lens or warp box. That is a lie. After reading other places people were still waiting 6 months for their screen I went else where. Seems he just cant keep up. Sad

The screen is nice and the set up is simple yet very effective. Very happy with what I recieved but I couldnt recomend due to the time frame issues as of now. With what he has he could defeinitly raise the price and take less orders or get some help but I know how it is when stuff snowballs and you get behind.

I spoke with him yesterday to see if they could make a screen out of the Centerstage UF. They couldn't because Seymour won't supply it. However, he told me the Centerstage XD would be fine at a 9 foot seating distance. He also told me the turnaround time is about 6 weeks, I believe. If its actually months, I may have to go with Seymour directly.

I ended up canceling. At least he refunded the money fast and without any stories.

I'm in the same boat. I ordered a screen December 28th. It was a little weird, since I didn't receive any communication about the order being processed, except for the paypal receipt. Since then, I have e-mailed him twice and called once. I called him on the phone about the order and eh said, if I received a paypal invoice, then I did in fact order the screen. I wasn't completely sold on it, since I did not receive any communication from him, so he told me to e-mail him and he would respond later that night. I did (around the 3rd of January. I still haven't heard back from him, so I e-mailed him again on Sunday and still haven't received any form of communication from him. The price is hard to beat, but the communication and customer service is forgetful. I honestly am frustrated with the fact, that there is no communication. I do not mind the screen taking longer than he expects, as long as he is communicating that to me. I should not have to be the one asking him for it. Besides venting, I am wondering if this is normal procedure for Jamestown. Finally, when did you guys actually receive your screens? How was the communication?

I ordered a 150" screen from Jamestown back in, I think, early 2013 or thereabouts. We had to call him a few times and it arrived much later than the initial estimate given when we purchased it, but he did come through. Normally I would never call someone who is doing made-to-order production because I understand things never go as planned, but since I couldn't find much in the way of third party reviews at the time I was a little antsy about it.

The screen is great and still holding up nicely BTW.

I had the exact thing happen about 2 years ago to me but he is trustworth and will deliver. It took about 9 weeks for mine ordered around Dec 10 2012. I did file a claim with PayPal within 45 days just to cover my butt.

Smart enough to know better, to old to care

I called him today, just to check on the status. I really do not care when I receive it, but I do value communication. IE, if it is gong to take longer than the estimate a friendly reminder letting me know. It sounds like my screen will be shipped by the end of the week. I hope it is as nice as everyone keeps raving about. I am pretty excited about having my first theater!

My experience was similar to yours, needed a lot of follow up but I did receive the screen 3 weeks after the promised date. I do not think he is to out to cheat people, probably more of a load balancing issue. Also when I needed to return the screen to Jamestown, they did accept the return and with a bit of the follow up got the money back to. I think it is quite alright to buy from Jamestown. The price is great for what you get. I just did not luck out on quality, mine had bowing up at the top due to the design, two part upper part allowed screen it to arch up, (they needed to design two-piece upper and lower frame parts to keep the shipping costs low) central support did not seem to help at all. Anyway, it was just my specific case, others are happy with the Jamestown, it should not steer anybody from Jamestown as he will come through for you even when it does not work. Just be diligent with follow ups.

I did not commit to buy another one, just felt like risk of arching is due to design in my opinion, so I just returned. At least I was happy that he accepted this return. The more I read the more I see the arching problem starts to surface on large size Jamestown screens, I am not an only one with the arching problem. The price point is attractive indeed, the quality is decent but he had to make compromises to keep shipping costs low.
