Tab Tensioned - Newbie Question

Hello. Please forgive me asking this! I'm sure everyone but me knows the answer, but we've all got to start somewhere.

Looking at illustrations, it appears that most tab-tensioned screens have a black border at the top. If I were to wind down the screen only to the bottom of the border (so that no border shows) and then project to the top of the screen, does this affect the tensioning?

To put it another way, does the screen have to be fully extended for the tensioning to perform correctly.

Thanks in advance,
Nick.

No, I bring my screen down so only 2 inches of the black border is showing at the top with no issues, no wrinkles or waves.
