Hi,

I plan on buying a Sony 10ht and I am putting it in a 27' long room. I want as big of a screen as possible. Is a 136" screen out of the question? I plan on mostly watching 16:9 and this is in a dedicated HT room so I can make it dark.

Thanks for any help,

I'm projecting a 133" diagonal 16:9 image using a Sony 400Q which is significantly less bright than the VPL-VW10HT and it does quite well. My viewing distance is only 15' away.

For the proper viewing angle of a screen that size, you'll need to sit between 14'-9" (40 degree) and 21' (30 degrees). On a unity gain screen you should have about 13 foot lamberts which is fine.

Just understand, the bigger you make the picture, the bigger you make any of the artifacts, imperfections, pixels and the like.

Would picture quality not play a huge role in this? Often I get a client
who wants to use a DLP or LCD projector, and do a 130-150" screen.. And
sit between 12-18 feet away. I think that a picture would look horrible on a screen of that size, sitting that close.

I have seen the sharp LCD on a 100" diag screen, and the pixels are easily 1/2" x 1/2" in size. If I sit any closer than 12 feet it looks terrible.

Bigger isn't always better!

Also... If this is a dedicated HT room, why not go CRT?
