The only "16x9" ratio is 1.78:1.

1.85:1 is slightly wider.

I think 1.78:1 is the better choice. The only real argument for 1.85:1 is that many movies are in that aspect ratio. However, the difference is very small, and all 1.85:1 movies fit just fine on the 1.78:1 screen. On a 110" screen the "black bars" would be less than an inch at the top and bottom.

1.78:1 is the standard for HDTV, if that matters to you.

I have a 1.85 screen and I have been quite happy with it. As stated above, most movies are in 1.85 and I watch mostly movies. While HDTV is 16:9, I don't mind cutting off a little on the top and bottom for general tv and the HD movies are in their normal aspect ratios, (1.85, etc.), so again the screen is spot on.

Between tv accuracy and movie accuracy, I'll do movie every time.

YMMV,
Phil

Divide Width by Height to determine screen ratio. IE, your 52x92 screen is 92" divided by 52" is approx 1.77 or close enough to the 1.78 notation.

To determine the horizontal mesurement of the screen. Square the width and height of the screen, add them together and get the SquareRoot of the outcome. If mesurements are in inches, you outcome will be inches.
