To all forum members interested,

There seems to be a bit of misinformation floating around about the new HC Da-Mat fabric from Da-Lite and I would like to clear it up.

I received an e-mail recently from a forum member who heard that we were having problems with the new HC Da-Mat fabric. I want to clear this up and inform everyone that are NOT having problems with this fabric. In addition, there was a question as to the availability of the fabric. Please be informed that it is readily available and has been since September of last year. The gain of the fabric is 0.8 and the half angle is listed as 40 degrees.

The only issue that arose from this was the fact that the first sample cards that were sent were inadvertently sent with an experimental 0.6 gain fabric and not the actual 0.8 gain HC Da-Mat fabric. However, that problem was corrected back in November of last year and subsequent sample booklets have the correct fabric.

If you are questioning the sample you may have received, please e-mail us at info@da-lite.com or call us at 800-622-3737 to request a new sample card.

Thank your for your time,

Blake Brubaker
Director of Home Theater Sales

By the way: I just want to say that I think this forum is a great venue to express our views and swap ideas. Good job, Steve, Alan and all involved!

Blake,
I've received two sample so far separated in time by at least 6 weeks. The second was the supposedly "corrected version". There was no way in he"double hockey sticks" that it was 0.8 gain in diffuse ambient. I have a Kodak gray card for comparison.

Under non-diffuse light, it might have higher gain, but I have either received the first batch twice, or something is wrong.

You might be able to clear it up by publishing gain curves and describe what the gray level is, what the gain, is and what the net gray level is under illumination.

On the positive side, the texture looked pretty good, although I'm not so sure that for some people, the shiny side might work better than the matte side.
