I am finally making a 16x9 screen for viewing HD content in the living room. My couch is 10 feet away from where the screen is going to be. I am using an LT154 projector fed by a DTC 100.

I was planning on making a 5 foot wide screen. DO any of you think that this is too big/small given the viewing distance of 10 feet? Any advise would be appreciated.

It passes the traditional wisdom of being 2x the screen width from the screen.

I should have thought of that. It seems small, but from that distance I think it will be very enjoyable.

orbillius,

My personal feeling would be to go bigger, it may not be the conventional wisdom, but to use only a 5' screen would seem a shame, why not put up a sheet and see what size you are most happy with.

For me, the bigger the better, within reason.

I have the same projector, the same viewing distance and I went with a 96"x54" screen. I am only using the middle 4:3 section of the screen at the moment and I think the size is perfect, the pixels are just visible. Besides, 55" wide screen material is readily available for about $5/yard.

I also sit about the same distance and I am projecting on a 50"x67" (84") screen, and also using the same projector LT154. I think the picture looks great, and the size is just perfect for the room size.
