Screen Innovations SLATE .8 or 1.2 HELP!

Hi guys,

I am getting various opinions on the right screen surface. I have a brand new in box Sony VW95es projector I have chosen the size at 133" 16:9 fixed with ZERO EDGE. .8 or 1.2 gain is the only question??? Room is completely dedicated, no external ambient light.
2 rows of seating. 135" U chaise Sofa first level at 13" and 132 sofa at 18'.
The room is 16'4" wide by 19' long. Dark colors on the walls, sound panels surrounding etc.

I am worried that the selection of the screen will be quite altering of the picture. advice is truly appreciated.

I have a brand new in box Sony VW95es projector. Sadly it took me 3 years to get this project put together, but I'd still like to use this projector.

Why don't you call Screen Innovations, get a sample of each, set up the projector, and do a little test ? Get their Pure White too - if you have a dedicated room with no light, and can control reflections, I'd probably go with a white screen.

You don't need a Slate ALR screen in a dedicated and light controlled room. Go for their Pure white screen.

The VW95 is not bright enough for a 133" diagonal 16:9 0.8 gain screen. You would only have around 12FL in high lamp. Also if your room is light controlled and has dark walls/ceiling, then I would do as the others have suggested and get a white screen. I would go with a 1.3 actual gain screen, due to the size you are wanting to throw.

As a follow up I have a similar question. I've attached a picture of our "media room" which is really a game room that we are using as a media room. It does has a large window that we will be able to black out, however we'd like to be able to use the project/screen combination with ambient light in the room also at times. The window in the room faces north so it should not get any direct sun light coming in that would hit the screen and the only other lighting will be overhead can lights that can be off, dimmed, etc. The room is approximately 15' wide x 16' long. The seating and screen will be on opposite ends of the length of the room making seating ~15-16' away. We already have our projector which is an Epson 5030UB. The projector will be mounted (can be) anywhere from 13'-15' from the screen. We've been recommended many different screens by many individuals. The consistent recommendation has been the Screen Innovations Slate screen but lots of different opinions on .8 vs. 1.2. The same on the actual screen size with individuals recommending anywhere from 96" to 120". I was really hoping to do the 110" zero edge. Any suggestions on which screen would work best with this projector and work in both an ambient and controlled lighting situation and why would sincerely be appreciated!
