Crystal Screens

Anyone? Looks interesting but dunno if their marketing claim holds true.

Would love to have someone compare their ALR properties with current competitors.

You have peaked my interest. Website says they will have a booth at Cedia 2017. Hopefully someone attending Cedia in September can report back.

ScottW did a HTG show with the Crystal Screens guys last December: https://twit.tv/shows/home-theater-geeks/episodes/331

I received samples from them early this year but as my theater is still under construction I haven't tested them out yet.

Assuming the base screen is good performance, one thing they mentioned as future work -- being optimistic engineers like me -- was the future option of laser micro-perforation for AT. If this could be done at a higher density than Stewart (who uses a physical pin array to poke holes AFAIK) then I'd be very interested for my 9' viewing distance with limited ~few inches between screen and LCR speakers.

Σ Info: Δ 8.5' viewing distance AT screen fabrics comparison
Σ Builds:
Δ HT 2.0 renovation with acoustic coffered ceiling (in progress, 10% completed)
Δ Variable-aspect screen with motorized masking (on hold, have parts)

A 2.5 gain with a 120-degree viewing angle? Either they have discovered the long sought after secret of reflecting more light off a screen than a projector throws at it or the image at the edges of that 120-degree viewing angle is a bit on the dark side.

I think that's the horizontal coverage. Rear projection screens which used to specify >4 gain also had wide horizontal coverage at the expense of vertical.

My 2.4g Microlite screen can do this just fine so it's entirely possible.

Screen Innovations Black Diamond 2.7 has 2.7 gain, 140-degree viewing angle.

Projector screen viewing angles are measured at the Half Gain point.
