Interestingly Stewart Screens has now recognized that DLPs require a specific screen to both enhance "black" level and retain or add "punch" to the image.

The Greyhawk no doubt adds to the bottom end, but at some expense, especialy as screen sizes increase. The Da-lite hipower has lots of "punch", but not the bottom end, although with its superb contrast range this is not the problem it would seem to be.

Here's the challenge - who is going to give us a reasonably priced screen that combines the best of the Greyhawk and the Hi-power? Stewart is already testing its "Firehawk"! I would hope that Da-lite is experimenting with its Hi-power or a similar screen, especially if it wants to retain a piece of the DLP pie.

Cheers,

Grant

I read Don's Post. So the Greyhawk remains as the preferred screen for a D-ILA PJ & the "Firehawk" is DLP specific??

Thanks, Mark

Mark, yes you're right the Greyhawk will probably remain the screen of choice for D-ILA (and LCD), also super high-end 3-chip DLP's. The Firehawk looks to be designed for lower output single chip projectors, but it will also work well if you are pushing the envelope with a D-ILA or LCD. Say 15' wide with a G15, Dean, you in for another beta test? :D

Kam Fung

I guess people are finally starting to "get it" about what I have spoke on about grey levels, PJ black levels, sq. ft. of screen surface. Differing levels of grey are required for different screen sizes, PJ CR's, and room requirements.

Rodrigo,

They are looking to beta test in January, so sometime after the first of the year is my estimate ;D

Seriously, I don't know how long the beta program will be.
