Went to watch a movie Friday night and received the following error message less than 5 minutes after start-up.

High temp! Lamp off in 1 min.

The PJ shut down and the ON/STANDBY light flashes in red with a repetition rate of 2 flashes. Cause and Remedy from the owners manual is internal temp is unusually high.

I tried again 30 minutes later and again the next morning. Same problem.

The temp in my basement home theater is a cool 65 degrees.

I tried removing the lamp and reseating, and cleaning the filter. Same problem.

I have an extened warranty with in-home service but they are having trouble finding someone to come out to the house and take a look at it. I'm guessing they will send it to Laerdo for repairs.

I can't believe how much I miss it and it has only been 3 days. It is only 6 months old with about 500 hours on the lamp.

I want a Masquerade.

Could be a problem with the internal thermostat... maybe?

Sorry to hear about your problems. I've had my Pearl for 18 months (1300 hours on the bulb) and so far no problems other than the usual quality contral suspects. ::knock on wood::

I hope you get your projector back soon!

Or get the Black Pearl (vw60). It is much better than the VW50. Why would you post a link to the VW200?

I would say go with the RS1 or better the RS2.

I upgraded to the Benqw5000 and it beats my Pearl on most accounts.

His depression requires immediate medical intervention. I would still prescribe lots of theater rest and a VW200.

Trust me, I love my VW200 but it is not in everyone's budget. It is 3X the amount of even the Black Pearl. My suggestion is go from the 50 to the 60...

Considering my Pearl is only about 6 months old and I purchased it new with a 5 year extended warranty - I will have it repaired by Sony.

A VW60, VW200, RS1, RS2, Benqw5000 or any other new PJ is not even a consideration.

Great, then calling Sony it is... If they have to switch it out make sure you get a 60!

I like the VW50 a lot. I'd have it fixed also....

Changing a projector your generally happy with is never a good idea in my opinion. There is almost always some trade off you find between any given two projectors.

I personally plan to hold onto my Pearl for at least another two years. I'm waiting for these "super high native contrast" projectors that we keep hearing about, hopefully coupled with more lumens.

I probably won't upgrade until there's a leap forward in technology. Although most everyone agrees that the VW60 is an improvement over the 50 in most categories, the improvement is generally described as evolutionary rather than revolutionary.

I was just meaning if they could not fix the 50 to see if they would offer a 60... You never know. I know of at least 2 others who had that luck.

I had the Pearl too. That problem sounds similar to ones I've heard. It most definitely needs Sony help back in the shop. If you can help them along by having a VW60 make the return trip, then do so.

I upgraded to the JVC RS1 and feel that is the projector I will be keeping for a while. Since I've heard the Black Pearl does compare favorably, you should try to use this as an opportunity to swing for the better one.

Push Sony and don't feel bad about it. If they can do it and apparently they have, you may be in luck.

It's all just a game. I just play to win.

Always a bummer when your pride and joy goes down. Always have a backup projector. You will never regret it.

The local service tech called today and said my Pearl is fixed. Something about a faulty thermostat sensor.

Hope to pick it up tomorrow, mount it on the ceiling and start watching some movies.

I want a Masquerade.

Got the Pearl back up on the ceiling last night and went for the full Blu-ray Rambo mayhem, mindless action, bloodlust, disemboweling, dismemberment, and decapitation action.

My world is a better place again.

Good choice. I read somewhere that the newest Rambo movie has about 2.59 kills per minute.
