That's amazing!

As a Pearl owner, this would be a 'lateral' move, but it's very interesting anyway.

Please check if the panel alignment system and compare it with that of the VW60.

Also see if light leakage around the picture frame has been improved.

Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows.

Jason
A press release talks about a bigger brother to the HW10. Will there be a HW model above the HW10? They could be referring to vw70.

Questions
1 120Hz support as in the different vw200 modes.

Native for good measure.
Lens quality/geometry since its shorter throw compared to 40/60?

EDIT: What does BRAVIA 2 offer?

I'm really curious how the convergence looks on this model. And how variable it is from unit to unit.

I agree with tvted: the throw/geometry, and at what zoom level is the image optimized?

And naturally, does the extra 100 lumens over the VW-40 actually add anything to a calibrated image?

shinksma

My opinions are my own, and do not necessarily reflect those of my captors.

I bet the 100 lumens will be moot in real world results, prob just juicing their specs

I would also love to see contrast numbers. Unfortunately, I don't think Jason is doing contrast readings anymore. Nonetheless, I would love to see contrast measurements again!

My only concern is that so many take them as the end all be all. I have seen projectors with super high contrast that don't look as good as others with lower for instance. Proof is in the picture really.

Thank you for taking the time to do measurements. I enjoy seeing the progress that is made in each generation of display tech, and to see real numbers versus manufacturer claims. Contrast readings also give the reader an idea of how certain types of content will look (dark content) and whether that is relevant in their purchasing decisions.

Can you check the fan noise to see if it's as quiet or more quiet than the VW40/VW60. Subjectivly, you don't need to measure...

Good point. I agree with Jason that you can't judge a PJ's image based on one measurement, in other words, the image can be greater than the sum of the measurements, but it is fun to see how the real world measurements improve with each generation.

As I say, take them as information on a whole rather than gospel for what to buy.

It should be quieter than the VW40.

Hi Jason -

I'm a big fan of SXRD (a friend has the 1st-gen VW50). But I've got a 126" Carada 1.0 gain screen in a non-light controlled environment, so I've been holding off upgrading my old Sony LCD due to the somewhat lower brightness of the SXRD projectors. I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts on the "supposed" 1000 lumens of the new model.

Thanks!

No problem. Talked to Alan so the plan is to do it in the morning. Expect it by 12pm or thereabouts.

Hey, Lurker..what old Sony LCD do you have? Not the VPL-VW10HT by any chance?

That's my ancient PJ..I'm also waiting to upgrade this go around (possibly to the HW10) but am interested in Jason's opinion about relative brightness and contrast between the two. (I know the 10HT is ancient and likely not to do 'great' compared to the HW10, but since I don't really understand all the techie details of what's in these boxes, just want to make sure I'd get comparable light output, etc).

BTW, my room is "bat cave" light controlled.

Thx..

- B

BBB_63:

I've got the Sony HS-20. So it's not quite as ancient as yours, but it's pretty close. I still remember going into the local A/V stores and seeing the 10HT back in the day -- it was a great projector.

I have a big living room with lots of windows, light colored walls, and sadly, a white ceiling. I also live down in Austin, so basically I have to wait until about 9 pm right now before I can even think about firing the thing up Plus, my panels are clearly out of alignment (my HS-20 has already been to Laredo once) and the picture is very soft. Time for an upgrade!

Hey Lurker, you dont need lumens, you need a hi power screen! Gives me all the punch i need. I think they go great with the Sony Lcos units.

This is great!!!
Just finished my first theater and am waiting for this years lot to come out to make a decision. I too like the Sony's, but have concerns about the brightness on a 120" screen. I can't wait to hear from Jason on the calibrated brightness.

Jason, any hints as to price on the unit and is it available for order?

Jason,
One other question - My throw distance would be just over 19ft (with 120" screen).
Do you think the HW10 would have the capability to create a bright enough picture when you take into account the throw distance being maxed out?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey, any chance of an AVS Power Buy on this thing? (Assuming it turns out to be a decent box)?
