Check out Carada.com (see the AVS Carada thread as well - link below). I'm using their 126 inch Brilliant White (BW) 1.78 Criterion with my RS15 in a room/sources like yours. My PJ is 13 ft from screen. Could not be happier. I don't work nor am affiliated with Carada in any way, just very impressed with the entire purchase/quality of product.

I have a 110" Carada Criterion 16:9 in classic cinema white and love it. My RS15 is ceiling mounted about 13' from the screen.

I run the Stewart Filmscreen StudioTek 130. Projector at 13 feet in front of screen. 1.3 gain. Good visibility from all angles. Problem free for many years.

In a light controlled room at that size, I would stick with a lower gain white fabric (1.1-1.4ish range). You really wouldn't need the benefits a gray would provide (especially since there are some drawbacks). As others mentioned, Carada's BW is good, Stewart's ST130G3 is the best (reference grade but pricey). Others are Da-lite's Cinema Vision and Vutec's Brite White. All are very good and would work well with the RS15.

It's been a while since I dropped in on this thread. I happen to live in Oceanside and have the RS15. I can give you a demo if you want to see if it will work for you and you haven't purchased it yet. PM me if you're interested.

Is there anyone else out there who is starting to get annoyed that JVC has still not fixed the Clear Motion 120 (Frame Interpolation) problems with the RS 15/25/35 HD 550/950/990 projectors?

Or that they have given NO INDICATION that they even think they NEED to fix this?

Is ANYONE p'd off that the feature is so messed up? Surely it can't be just me?

Thoughts?

Yes, I think it is mainly you. TBH the only annoyance I find with this non-issue is that it prompted you to pollute every JVC thread with your hysterics.

Just finished watching Avatar on Blu-ray tonight on my HD550. OMG what an amazing picture. Just stunning. Breathtaking in fact. The graphics are just awesome in this movie and the JVC dose them justice. I have never seen anything look as good on a display.

I admit i never saw it in the theatres in all its 3D glory but i can see a sort of 3D quality to the picture i have never experienced before with a projector.

I like it

My wife and I watched Avatar 3D in the largest THX certified cinema in the world and I can honestly say that we enjoyed it as much, if not more, on a 106" HD550 projected image in our HT. If anything, the 3D version distracted from the amazing detail and perspective of the CGI.

Stewart ST130. I dont have the RS15, but I do have an RS1 and have owned both Carada (have had both the classic cinema white and brilliant white at my house) and my Stewart screen I have now (also owned a Severtsen for a while). Stewart is worth the extra $$$ in my opinion. I am very close to ordering another Stewart 130 as I am wanting to go 2:35. It is the only screen of the 4 I have owned that I have been totally satisfied with, but I am very picky.

Hi Guys,

I've been a lurker for a while although am now ready to get my first projector (not win :-( although congrats!) and have decided upon a JVC DLA-HD550.

Can anyone recommend a decent place to buy (US) as I'm seeing prices range wildly between $4,000 and $5,000.

Thanks!

Order the B stock RS15 from AVS. I better finish my HT remodel, looking forward to this upgrade. The price was right in line with my budget. I was looking at the sony 15 but for the price I went with the RS 15.

Damn, I saw the RS30 and now the 25 B-stock sale, but missed the 15! That sucks.

Still looking to buy a 15/550...but at this point, I may wait for the next model unless I can get a screaming deal.

My plan, as silly as it may be, is to get a new PJ in time for the LOTR extended BD's release, so I am in no hurry.

Nightfly,

I thought you already purchased something bro. Don't let all these great opportunities pass you by bro. Shoot me a PM, I'll be in O-side in a few weeks on business. If your free maybe we can talk shop over a few cold ones.

I was really close to buying an RS15 from Jason last week but unfortunately I have never seen the RS15 in action and could not bring myself to spend so much money on something I have never seen. Does anyone know where there is a good demo in the Cincinnati, Ohio area?

I saw the Pioneer clone (RS-2) and was impressed with the contrast and blacks how does the 15 compare?

Thanks for your help

I am considering the purchase of an HD550. It will be mounted approx 17' from a 140" AT scope screen in a completely light controlled room. All walls dark and ceiling black. No reflective surfaces. Will this PJ be bright enough without having to crank it up to its brightest mode right out of the box.

Thanks

Stace

I assume your AT screen is around 1x gain? Without a GOOD anamorphic lens I think that's pushing the capabilities of the pj. I have the slightly dimmer RS20 and am happy on a 120" 16:9 AT screen at hi-lamp and open iris. But I think I'm going to be buying lamps often because I wouldn't want it to be any dimmer. It's very nice now, flashlights shown in your face make you wince.

The screen is supposed to be a gain of 1.2. I was hoping this thing would light things up. Sounds like I will have to be on high lamp?

Yes, I would think so. Maybe not if you have a low loss anamorphic lens. That would give you a theoretical 20% brightness improvement. But that would cost what the projector costs, at least these days.

Alright, I have decided to go with a 130" scope screen. Hopefully that will help with brightness. Now I have to get busy and finish building the room.

I took the plunge and ordered one rs-25b from Jason. This is my first experience with projectors and I am a newbieat at all of this. Please bare with me. First the size of the room at the atic is wiered. I have 2beams comming out slightly out half way ofthe room . my concern is that could this interfere with theprojection or limit the sizeof the screen. the room hasno windows and the lighting is controled. I have readsome on the recommended screens but theway the room is I would have to place the screen in front of the centerspeaker. Does this meanthat I would havedo use a specific screen? Also the area from and to the projector and rack is about 35 feet. any help and advice will be appreciated I have pictures of the room but I cannot paste it in here. Thanks
