The VW85 has a MSRP of 8K. That is what I meant. I am planning a side by side. Once again, twist my comments. You should take your own advice and NOT post in this OWNER'S thread. At least I am one (for the moment)...

Maybe you really do want the 550 (15)...

Good come back...

Back on topic... For the real owners or potential owners...

Are most of the owners using Low lamp mode with Lens aperture 3? That seems to combine the best of both worlds. Also, which gamma settings is everyone favoring?

"Normal" instead of high lamp mode here, with aperture 3. Looks great and whisper quiet!

The soundtrack was 0.1; the low frequency sub channel was present (along with the vocals), but the music was provided by the 21st Century Orchestra (which flew in from Switzerland), along with a 200+ member chorus. It was incredible. Howard Shore attended and was signing boxed CD sets, and joined the musicians (along with Dominick Monighan and Elijah Woods) for the curtain call.

The more I mess with the Clear Motion the more I like it! It really is making my Madden 10 games look awesome. Plus the College games so far today have looked sweet. Can't wait for tonite's Big game.

First family night a big success for the RS15. Not even calibrated yet. Watched Rent (show BD, not movie BD). Great show, great BD.

How do you like the JVC compared to your Sony?

Thanks. I have a few more (like a cheerleader shot showing the excellent pitch black sky) I may post. I like the 550 and it is not to far off overall to my Vw200. The 200 does have better scaling and better color but dark movies do look better on the 550. Especially night scenes!

All,

I just installed the JVC DLA-RS15 and I have a black border around all sides of the picture for some 1080i/60 source material. I am familiar with letterbox, pillar, 2.35 and 4:3 borders - this is different. I have tried to be accurate in describing the problem here to avoid leading you on wild goose chases.

The configuration was fully operational with a Sony VPL-HS20 projector. The only change was replacing the HS20 with the RS15. Also note that I have a Samsung hi-def monitor connected in parallel that simultaneously shows all video with no black borders.

Configuration of all video:
1) Component Y/Pr/Pb signal inputs - PS3, Sony DVR, Zenith DVR, Vista Media Center (VMC) PC DVR
2) Each Y/Pr/Pb input goes to a 4:1 video selector switch
3) The Y/Pr/Pb switch goes go through a 1:4 splitter, so all displays should see the same source - outputs (simultaneously) go to:
a. Samsung T240HD hi-def monitor
b. JVC DLA-RS15 hi-def projector

Problem and other information:
1) JVC DLA-RS15
a. Shows black borders on all sides for some signals with hi-def 1080i signal (that is, not letterbox, pillar or 4:3 signal black bars)
i. PS3 - all video OK
ii. Sony DVR - video OK but the Menu system shows borders on all sides
iii. VMC PC - video and Menu system shows black borders on all sides
b. The RS15 menu info screen shows 1080i/60 for all video inputs
c. The RS15 Input Signal > Overscan option in the setting menu is grayed out - as expected for hi-def signal input
d. The RS15 Input Signal > Mask is off and anyway, IMO it would affect all signals similarly and I only see problems with certain inputs
2) Samsung T240HD shows all video OK (no borders) and the video is simultaneously displayed with JVC DLA-RS15

What can I check/change to resolve this issue? Any help would be appreciated.

Aussie

I cannot speak to the cause of the problem. However I can tell you for certain that with the RS20 the Masking options are not grayed out for HD sources. In fact I use 2.5% for 1080i cable TV and 0% for 1080p/24. This is not an issue I've heard about with any of these JVCs so unless it is a problem with that unit or a new bug my guess is that it is something related to your signal or signal config.

Try eliminating the switch and splitter - go direct to the projector from each device and see what result. Then, if fixed, reintroduce each device until the problem is identified.

Yes great idea. Break things down to the simplest possible configuration as a temporary test, then start adding things back in until the problem reappears.

Just to be clear ... Mask is "Off" not greyed out ...

I will reduce the switch configuration and see what happens ...
