Yes the question was about gaming. Sorry I haven't played games in REC709 color and to my knowledge this is like trying to open a can of worms with LCOS technology regarding other issues. Now if this is improved from previous models based on what I have read here, then all is good. My post were not meant to be off-topic.

I am simply interested in the experience current users have with input lag.

I wasn't trying to be complicated.

Can anyone tell me the differences between the RS15 and RS10? Other than the 120Hz Clear Motion Drive.

RS15 has slightly higher contrast, CMD, and the menu system is revised slightly (ultimately makes calibration a bit easier)...that is basically it.

If I personally owned an RS10 would I upgrade? No. But if I was buying new, if I could even find an RS10 now, it would have to be at a very good discount under the RS15.

I stream all my movies from the PC to the PS3 using PS3 Media Streamer http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/ I use this projector for both movie and gaming and find it fantastic. I have not yet bothered calibrating the unit, still set to natural with lens aperture set to 2. FI is enbled on hi but will most likely disable this when playing directly from blueray. I have not experienced any lag with the PS3 with latest firmware install for games. I now have to schedule time to watch movies because the wife has taken over the "beach front" lol which wasn't a problem before with the old PTAE900.

I do set it to low for sports and it seems to help.......high seems a bit much even for sports from what I've found or seen so far.
Hope this helps.

Thanks. I was just curious. Had heard few comments on the FI and what I did hear none were using for movies. Vey nice room by the way.

I've had my HD550 for less than a week now, but I always use FI in Low most of the time, and sometimes depending on the movie, I put it on High. I've only watched a dozen movies so far, but I like the effect FI introduces. The HD550 has great depth and three dimensionality without FI, but I think it is even better WITH FI. Most of the time, FI enhances the picture to my eyes by ekeing out even more of that depth effect, without looking too soap-opera-ey like my 120Hz Samsung LCD. I've hardly ever noticed the dreaded "Predator" ghosting effect or movement tearing. I've only seen it so far when there is very fast action and the camera is also panning/trucking fast and not in every fast sequence. i guess it just doesn't happen enough to bother me.

So for sci-fi, horror, and action, I like the effect of immediacy and three dimensionality that FI provides even if it might add a little bit of video look to the movies. On drama/serious-type movies I usually turn it off on my Samsung, so I MAY do that with the JVC. Anyway I love the implementation on the JVC. Much nicer than my LCD.

And as for the projector all I can say is WOW! Some minor tweaking and it's spectacular. My last units were Epson UB, and Optoma. When I first played Dark Knight on it, my jaw was on the floor most of the movie, especially when the IMAX scemes showed up. Love it!

I'm finally trying to adjust the new RS15 using my Spears and Munsil disk from my Oppo BDP-83 connected via HDMI. The BDP-83 is set to factory defaults except bright is -2 and contrast +2.

No matter what I set for contrast and brightness on the RS15, I get crushed whites and mostly crushed blacks. I can't see any of the numbers on the white bars of the contrast tests. I can only see one black bar on that pluge test. (This is with pretty much any of the RS15 display modes and any adjustment on bright and contrast.)

There must be something obvious I'm missing here. Right?

Thanks for any advice:^)

There's "standard vs. enhanced", sometimes called "video vs PC". It determines if the level ranges from 16 to 235 or 0 to 254. If they don't match you can get crushed whites and blacks. Make sure your player's output and projector's input is set to the same thing.

Actually as I recall the max on both is 30k:1 with full iris, but the native on the RS15 is 17k:1 vs. 15k:1 for the RS10. Negligible really.

Thanks Erkq

I found enhanced/standard/auto and set it to enhanced. It works perfectly now. Picture looks so much better...

Thanks,

the RS15 is spec'd at 32,000:1 vs. HD550 at 30,000:1. the RS15 is also MSRP $500 more than the HD550. the other models (RS25/950 & RS35/990) match up with the same specs and MSRP

I would love to hear any impressions of those who have tried gaming with a 360 or PS3 with 120hz FI turned on. Any difference? Uncharted or Halo 3 anyone?

Yes, that's right. I set it to enhanced and then went through all of the Spears and Munsil screens to adjust contrast, brightness, iris, etc... I have no calibration equipment so I'm just doing this by sight. It's bright enough and the black levels are really really black.

I have a TV that I love the color on so I dropped the screen 1/2 way down and fed the color bars to both the TV and the RS15 so I could see both simultaneously. I tweaked the color space on the projector until all of the bars looked very similar to the TV. Now the color on the projector closely mimics that of the TV. I know it's not a real calibration but to our eyes (my wife and I) it looks terrific!

I ended up, like most others, with an iris of 3 and low lamp mode. Reds boosted, greens and blues reduced. Bright and contrast were not too far off. I'm not near the proj now but if I recall, bright was about -3 and contrast was +7ish?

If I had the RS25 I probably would have hired a calibrator. With the RS15 I thought I would try modifying the User setup myself and indeed it worked out to my satisfaction.

I've got an OPPO bdp-83, Onkyo 906 (on pass-thru video) and a 110" Da-Lite HCCV screen with a 16' throw and ceiling mount proj.

Thanks for all of the posts, I've learned a lot reading here...

Is this the only difference between them? I am in Europe and have a chance to get either of them for the same price. This extra 2000 contrast in the RS15 has thrown me as I was going to go for the HD550

that and the gold vs. silver trim

i doubt the 32k vs. 30k is going to be noticeable to the naked eye.

Is the warranty the same?

What would you consider a very good discount? Would you consider an extra $800 for the slightly higher contrast, FI and revised menu system worth it? I am looking at both the old RS10 and RS15 and that is the price differential I am looking at. It seems like several people here don't really care for the FI.

Well there are other things that are improved on the RS15 (not spec related, internal changes) that help with sharpness, amongst other things. $800 is not enough of a savings in my opinion to buy an older unit (and it really depends on the deal you are getting on both).

Never heard of that, especially horizontally. I assume you have checked other things, like the mount being stable?
