Is there news about a firmware to avoid judder when not enabling their interpolation system ??
When we feed with a 24p, the vivitek is not smooth at all , we have to use their interpolation menu

Does anyone know how to check the run time of this projector? The manual talks shows how to check current lamp time, but not total time of projector. Is there a way?

Yep. I have an HD87 (which I unfortunately have to sell due to financial strains)

It's native contrast is so good, I hardly ever use the DI. It's brilliant.

Is anyone here using a anamorphic lens with the Vivitek? How well does it work, is the scaling and trigger system good?

Hi,

Reading the user's manual of the H5080, Optoma HD8600 and Infocus SP8604, i have found contradictory information.

What is the real maximum vertical offset between the top of screen and the optical center when the projector is installed on the ceiling ?
20% of the screen height or 10% ?

S.

Yesterday I bought the H5082 at Best Buy's Magnolia Store. They had it drastically reduced for clearance (less than half of MSRP). Seemed like a great deal. Now I'm having second thoughts. What makes this PJ better than the others I was looking at, the Mitsu hc4000 or the Optoma H33 (which would be the same price as I paid for the H5082)?

Is Vivitek a trustworthy brand?

If anyone is looking to pick up one of these, you might try checking out the Best Buy Magnolia store. The store I was at had two of them on clearance, but there was no clearance price marked--if the sales associate hadn't mentioned it, I never would have known.

Also, I ended up buying Best Buy's 2-year extended warranty, which they told me will cover everything in the box, including the bulb. Considering it was about half the price of the bulb, it seemed like a very good deal.

Your pj should easily out perform the units you've mentioned. I wouldn't worry about it. Sounds like you got a good deal!

My Vivitek is a year old and I have been very happy with it.

I never trust in-store warranties. Good Luck with that part of your purchase.

I kept going back and forth on it. I'm also very skeptical. But the bulb warranty on the h5082 is only 90 days and the BB manager said it would be covered for 2 years. Hope it works out that way.

90 days sounds about right for the lamp warranty.

2 years would be the warranty for the rest of the projector.

I've never heard of a 2-year lamp warranty. Either BB mis-spoke or you mis-heard....

EDIT: The manufacture warranty is 90 days for the lamp and 1-year for the rest http://www.vivitekusa.com/v_display_...product_id=175 (click on the warranty tab)

So no 2-year unless BB is extending it.

Yes, two years is only through the BB extended warranty. The literature I got when I bought the extended warranty did say that it covers "wear and tear" items, and the sales associate specifically said that it includes "everything in the box" including the bulb. If so, then I think the 2-year extended warranty is well worth it. If not, maybe not.

Perhaps. Though in cases like that, I would have the salesman write or print it on your receipt. Makes it much easier if you have to make a claim.

Also, my guess is that it would cover a blown lamp, not just a worn lamp.

Also, my understanding of extended warranties is that if anything happens within the manufactures warranty period, you would be using the manufactures warranty. That might mean the lamp may not be covered between 91-360 days period

I am dealing with BB right now. Supervisor of Magnolia is stating the BB extended warranty includes replacement of bulb when it wears out.

I am also looking at the Vivitek on clearance. Trying to decide between the Vivitek for $1400 or the Epson 8350 for $1050? Any input?

I have an 18X13.5 basement room that is 100% light controlled. Use will be gaming 50%, movies 30%, and HDTV 20%.

Thanks.

.

If it were me, I'd ask them to point out where it says that in the fine print, and if they can't do that, have him hand print (or type) it into your receipt.

Otherwise you'll have no hard evidence to point to when/if they deny ever mentioning that.

I recently got Chromapure with advanced auto-cal and need to access service menu to calibrate grayscale or at least for 100% ire before I start auto-cal. Does anyone have the code to access the service menu? Please PM me if you do.

Thanks,

Is the 5080 still a quality projector? Most of the posts in here are several years old. Wondering if people still have them and if they're still happy. Also are there better units out now.

DLP hasn't really had a lot of technological breakthroughs in the last few years. You can expect upgrades on newer projectors to be on the software side of things. The Vivitek performs very closely to this years crop of .65" DLP projectors in the 2D department. The only thing this projector is missing out on is 3D. But if you are looking for a straight 2D projector, like I said, it performs on par with this years set of .65" DLP projectors in regards to brightness, sharpness, black levels, contrast, color managment, FI system, motion handling, placement, audible noise, ect.

Dylan is correct. It's a shame DLP hasn't progressed with improving black level as they may have maxed out the technology until 4k DLP chips are implemented. I've had my H5082 for a few years as I bought it for just watching HDTV that had lens shift and is plenty bright. It fits all those needs and I got a great deal on an open box item.

Not sure 4K will bring better blacks.

4k for the tiny consumer market will likely be trickle-down from commercial, and I don't see a lot of incentive for getting uber blacks when the black level floor is determined by required safety lighting.

What would be comparable projectors to the vivitek? Saw a vivitek in person and was very impressed.

The Optoma HD8600 is virtually identical to the Vivitek 5085 (not quite sure what makes the 5082 and 5085 different). Apparently, even though they are the same projector, Vivitek can sell if for less. I think the projectors are manufactured by Delta and branded for each company and I'm pretty sure Vivitek is owned by Delta and that would account for the projector being offered for less under the Vivitek name.

As for something from another company, you could look at the Mitsubishi HC8000. Performance wise, in 2D, they offer a comparable picture.
