I just got the HC9000 from AVS and they talked me into a Darby as well. The Darby actually arrived a day or 2 ahead of the PJ, so I connected it to my 55" LG 55LE8500 (LED backlight, local dimming, LCD). I didn't expect too much since the screen is only 55". However, I was amazed at the difference it made. For BR stuff and HDX VUDU stuff, the image stood up to 50% to 60% enhancement. The image was noticeably sharper with better detail resolution and improved local contrast.

When my HC9000 arrived, I switched the Darby to it. On the HC9000, I found that I could see artifacts at any setting above 40%. At 40%, some sources looked a bit better, for others it was harder to tell a difference. Overall, I like the Darby, but I'm not sure I would have jumped on it if I had seen it demonstrated on the HC9000.

FI is frame interpolation. It is telling you that you can use FI in 3D mode. here is an article on FI: http://www.projectorreviews.com/advice/HomeTheaterProjector-FAQs/Frameinterpolation.php

Is this projector discontinued? If so, is there a replacement coming out?

It has been mentioned the lens is very good on the HC9000, wonder if the new model will employ the same lens?

I doubt it. The optics are the most expensive part of the projector and when you want to reduce cost, the optics usually takes a hit.

Anybody zooming to a scope screen with one of these? Is it a pain since there's no lens memory? Also, does it have the vertical position adjustment that allows you to have both upper and lower letterbox bars above the picture?

well, the zoom is motorized, ao i can't see it being that much of a pain...

yes, assuming you aren't at the limit of the lens shift, you could shift it vertically...

Thanks. The vertical position adjustment is a digital adjustment on the other Mits models and would be independent of the lens shift if it has it.

gotcha... the vertical/horizontal adjust in the menus has always baffled me a bit, because they seem to be tied to how much lens shift you are using... "seem" being the key word, as i never investigated it that deeply, since i use my radiance to do the shift to "one big black bar"...

Got it, thanks for the info mine is the advanced model indeed. Just upgraded from a JVC HD550 and I must say this Mits looks outstanding. The depth of the image with very little tweaking is amazing.

Is this PJ pretty quiet? The only way it's going to work with my room/screen is to build a table/platform that will place it just 1-2 feet above the center 2 seats just behind our heads when seated.

that is where mine is located (click on the link in my sig for pics, scroll to the end)...

in "normal" mode, i don't notice the fan... ymmv, i may just be used to it, and i don't have the lowest noise floor in the world in my room (there's also a rabbitair air filter in here, which i don't notice on it's low setting either)...

where are you located? if you are anywhere near southern nj (i'm across the river from philly), you are welcome to come "hear" for yourself... smile.gif

Nice HT! That's pretty much the same location mine would have to be in relation to our seating. Using an HC4000 right now which has a huge offset, so it's about 1' down from the ceiling and farther away. Thanks for the invite, I'm in central California unfortunately. What brand/model mount are you using?

Unfortunately after doing the distance calculations in my room over and over I'm coming up about 4" short at the full wide angle of the PJ to hit my 105" scope screen. If only the housing wasn't so darn huge on this thing. mad.gif

thanks... smile.gif

when i had it mountedfrom the ceiling, i was using a peerless universal mount.... went to the hardware store and got myself a 4 foot long pipe and spray painted it black... used a plumbing flange on the ceiling to screw the pipe into...

i like it a lot better on the re-purposed lingerie chest, simply because i was finally able to rid myself of pj vibrations that way... my "preference" would have been to keep it ceiling mounted, but my 110 year house is not very cooperative when it comes to controlling shaking/vibrations...

yea, cali to jersey would be a bit of a long drive... smile.gif

drag about it being too big... frown.gif

Hello

I have bought Mits HC9000 a few weeks ago and i'm stunning with this projector, is fantastic.... I had a JvC X3 before, and in a non dedicated room IMO the Mits is better in all aspects

I am trying to calibrate it, but i find it is too hard to get a correct garnut with the CMS. I have to say that it's my first projector with CMS, i have no practise with this tool, but i tried several times to correct garnut and there is no way to do it... Has someone had success with tool?? Or this CMS does not work correctly??

Thanks

There was a factory upgrade made to the HC9000D's because the CMS did not work correctly. This was not an upgrade that could be performed in the field because it also involved hardware. I would have thought that any HC9000D sold in the last few months would have this upgrade, but it is possible that yours does not have it. I would contact your dealer and ask. If it came from us, it has the upgrade.

Thanks. i am going to ask my dealer about it. I bought it in August, but it was in shop since january 2012, maybe it has not been upgraded, i'm waiting answer from Mitsubishi.

For calibrate I'm using an Eye One 2 and HCFR software.

Hi

It's not sure that i've got to take HC9000D for an upgrade, TS has to verify if my firmware is or not the correct one... It can seems easy, but you can not imagine how many telephone calls i have had to do until i found someone who knows about this question... It's a shame that the Mitsubishi support (in spain) works so bad...

In the service menu appear this data:

FIRMWARE 2011.3.10.1
MCU 2011.2.15.1
DDM 2011.02.05.01
FPGA 2011.3.7.1
MEMC 20100917
Location EU

Another easy way to tell if your model is Advanced is look at the shipping box and the front of the box near the picture of the projector on the bottom left hand corner where it is printed HD9000D there is a white sticker with an A under it. Look for that on the box and if needed I can sen you a photo of my box to show you.

Longevity of the Mits is Huge

Yep, two companies so far, Mitsubishi and Yamaha have never failed me ever.

If i get it, this will be my 3rd Mitsu, after the HC5000 and the HC7000. Hard to give up the HC7000 though, but I
will be reassured that HTPC viewing will be as good, detail is amazing on the HC7000.

Sony CS sucks from $300 dictaphones, through ES receivers, and beyond. Their arrogant and aphasic even by ESL standards underpaid staff are offensive even to this immigrant poster. Therefore close to full MSRP via authorized dealer is the only way to
risk a Sony product and I never heard of AVS ever dropping a customer!
