I have a mount that came with my 1080UB Pro and was wondering if the mount will work on my 8700UB I ordered? Are the mounts spacing the same on the 8700UB vs 1080UB? Thanks

Hello All,

I currently have my 9700 mounted on the ceiling at 17 feet away from a 120" diag Seymour AT screen, in a light-controlled room.

For a few different reasons, I am thinking about moving it back to 22 feet away- I will cut out a cubby hole in the back wall and place the projector there.

I am curious as to the pros/cons of moving the projector back- I see that the 22 feet falls in the distance range recommended by Epson, but away from the recommended distance given by the calculator on projectorcentral.com.

By Moving the projector back that far you will loose brightness to your image,.
Always the further back you go the less bright your projector will be...

When moving back you do lose brightness but gain contrast and with gain screens you gain better screen uniformity. I wouldn't trade the brightness for contrast unless I had plenty of brightness to spare, which I doubt on your size screen. With the Epson the difference between short and long end of the zoom for the same screen size is ~40% loss in brightness.

I have had experiance with the SI Backstage AT Screens.,
Very very Good
the Lunar .85 gain is awesome for producing great black levels...
would work well with the Epson 9700

Not a Fan of the Seymour AV product my self but thats my opinion based on Previous experiences

Hi all. I've had my projector for about 6 months and have logged 734 hours. In the last week, I have noticed a SIGNIFICANT darkening of the picture. It was my understanding that the bulb is supposed to be good for 4000 hours. Has anyone had a similar experience or should I consider swapping bulbs?

I've had my 9500 for one year. 2 weeks ago, the blub went out. It only lasted 851 hours! I'm glad they give you a spare and it was a real pain to change out. Right now my contractor is seeing about another 9500 because of my slight green and pink problem, but, alas, they don't make them anymore. I hope I can get into a 6010 because it'll be their newest, but I also don't want to be a beta tester either.

...finally retired and spending time in my HT!!!

Well, just replaced my bulb and that was it. Picture is bright and amazing again. Have to say though that if all the bulbs last is 750hrs, I'm VERY disappointed. Going to call Epson on Monday as that's pretty false advertising.

Inspector: Just got off the phone with Epson tech support. They were very nice and agreed that 734hrs was not normal use for the bulb. They are shipping me a new one free and asked that I send back the original to diagnose. Glad it wasn't a fight to get this resolved.

Thats great to hear Chris. Everything I do has to go thru my contractor, so there's a down side.

The picture is nicer looking now with the new bulb, but the pink and green is still there. I hope to hear something soon.

Would you post your ISF calibration settings. I tryed your second set of THX postings. Those settings looked quite good on my carada brilliant white 1.4 gain screen. ( 126" )
Wanted to see what ISF settings looked like. Thought about investing in EyeOne Pro with ChromaPure Standard. Really getting into the calibration aspect now.

I'm still waiting for Monoprice to restock the 120" Multi-format white screen, but last night I used my new 9700UB to watch part of the Cinerama movie "How the West Was Won" in smilebox format on a sheet hung to be 120" 16x9. Incredibly great picture from this projector!

A couple of days earlier, I watched a hockey game projected on a white wall. Also incredible picture.

I guess I can be patient with Monoprice.

I changed my mind about getting a multiformat screen and purchased a Monoprice 120" white fixed flat screen for use with my Epson 9700UB.

Watched the Blu-ray "Meek's Cutoff" last night, a very slow (some might find it incredibly boring) movie. The movie is 1.33:1 format, strange for a newer release, but the cinematography was absolutely beautiful.

I can't believe the quality of this projector. Single strands of hair (and everything else) look perfect!

I'm using the THX color setting with no changes by me (yet).

I haven't taken photos. I have a simple point and shoot digital camera, and they probably wouldn't do the actual picture justice. Maybe I'll try in the future.

The bulb in my 9700 just went out with about 800 hours of wear on it. This doesn't seem normal to me. The projector is just about a year old. Good thing it comes with a spare, but should I be concerned? I'm betting the warranty doesn't cover this even though the bulb went way earlier than it should right?

Call Epson they have been very good about bulb replacements. I'll bet they will replace it for free.

You are right. I called Epson and since it was the original bulb, they are replacing it for free. The tech said 750hrs (I checked before I reset it) was way too early. Last week I noticed the colors were off and recalibrated. Tonight I turned it on and pop. What great service and man does the image look amazing again. Oh, they also will dispose of the bulb for me too.

I have a brand new bulb for the Epson 9700UB for sale. I had this projector and ended exchanging it with Epson for a different model.

The bulb is brand new (my 9700UB came with an extra bulb, I am selling the extra bulb that was never used), I can also throw in the Epson 9700UB remote control and cable cover at no additional cost.

At about 750hrs, the light bulb blew. Epson was kind enough to send a replacement even though it came with a replacement bulb since 750hrs was way too short of a lifespan. Tonight, I was watching TV and suddenly the projector shut down and now I'm getting both warning lights flashing red. It happened during a "resolution change". My Satellite box routes through my receiver and it is set to pass through the native signal vs. converting it to a set resolution so I always get a black screen and flicker as it changes from 720p/1080i/1080p.

The manual said it's an "internal problem" and I need to unplug it and contact support. Epson support is closed, but I'll be calling them in the morning. I was wondering if anyone had issues like this or if this is a known problem? I have to say while I was pretty happy with their customer service with my bulb, I'm pretty disappointed in the quality right now. A short life bulb and now this? I do use my projector as my every day system so it's used maybe more than the average projector but at this price point, I expected better.

Epson said it was "failure of the auto-iris". When i powered the unit back on, everything was working. He said they have no idea of what happened, but that if it happens again, they'll send a replacement. I'm not sure I'm very happy with that response, but it is what it is. Crossing fingers...
