Nice audio set up btw.
I had a Yamaha dpx830, which was dlp 720p from 2006.
Kevin Miller calibrated it back then.
I spoke to him recently, and he said this 9700 would blow it away.
Not surprising since he did have input in its design.
But I would have him back to dial this one in.

I didnt I had plasma before...
i did a whole room make over...
Audio is Pinnicle Black Diamond Series...
will post a pic of what my room looked like before...

Before....

Now......

I just went into my local pj store and walked into the room where they usually have the JVC RS25 hanging, small amount of ambient lighting, on FoxNews Glen Beck election results...I won't say my mouth was hanging open but it took me five minutes to look up and notice it was the black Epson Pro 9700 hanging there. Before I get flamed, it was high ambient light so blacks would've been washed out a little anyway. Anyway, after dimming the lights the image had tons of pop on a 120" SI 1.3 ga. screen...close inspection of the pixel alignment showed almost no shift. Great color, plenty of brightness and near razor sharpness at 10 ft away from 120" screen. Also, I stood right behind it (nose to the filter) and could hear no fan noice louder than a whisper, the front was not different. No iris sounds audible.

Now, does the Pro model have any better QC of convergence/iris function? Epson doesn't state so, but, I personally haven't noticed nearly the complaints of problems in the Pro series as is so common in the Home version. It would be nice to know.

The Iris funtion has normal and High...
I have used both and the Iris is a dual layer iris ..
As for the quiet sound level
if its on THX or HD or Cinema Night with ECO Power Settings on its whisper quiet
In Vivid and Cinema Day i use it with Eco off and you can hear the fan noice
but its not super loud and i can only hear it with the volume off.....

Are you using the super resolution setting? I have it set to 1, and the contrast enhancement set to 1.

On THX mode i dont have them on
But on my Vivid or Cinema Day
I have Super Resolution to 3 and contrast Enhance 1....

What i did for S.R was pulled up my On screen guide from Dish Network and then cycled thru Off- 3 and found that i noticed a diff on 3 as the best...

I have the 8700UB (almost the same as the 9700UB), coming from the 6500UB. I love it, it is a decent upgrade to an already great projector (the 6500UB). The color is much better, shadow detail is much better, it is sharper, the contrast is slightly better, and black levels are slightly better. THX mode is awesome out of the box, no complaints so far, but I only use THX at night. I have ambient light issues during the day, so I use the brighter modes.

If you don't want to spring for a pro with professional equipment to tune your projector (which you should) it's just a one time shot.

Ok then you should start with a basic Avia / DVE tuning, then put up a graysteps pattern, light grays/white to dark graybars. Find it in Avia or DVE. Study the color bias in the grays, first use the colortemp control to see which makes gray look steely gray with no color bias.

Next use the advance RGB gains and bias. RGB gains take color out of the white/bright grays, RGB bias takes the color out of the darker grays.

If you see red bias in the lights back off the red gain and increase the Blue and green gain equally till you see no color bias in the gray tone.

Once gray looks gray with no color bias your picture should look more natural toned.

Cheap way to try and fix it and nothing beats a pro with equipment coming out and making your 6500k gray balance go where it should be.
Good luck on your tweeking.

Good I see a bit of red bias in the flesh tones. A little more green and maybe a very small amount of blue would help those flesh tones. If you start seeing purple in the flesh tones it's over blue that's the culprit. Just keep going pick a reference movie like the Fifth Element or other that you know has ref/color.

Definetly got allot better, you're getting the hang of it. Look over the graysteps pattern in Avia or DVE, DVE's pluge pattern (brightness setting) or cross gray bars for setting contrast/whites. Both show the gray tones. See if there's still some color tints in the gray.

Calibrators like the pluge pattern because the gray boxes are very large.
