I hope someone can help me here. LONG time reader first time poster. I just received a 90es. So far love it. Glad I got it , not a bad price. Anyways the question

I hook to blu ray player and play a 3d movie works perfect.

Hook to Apple TV and steam sbs 3d and all I get is 2pics side by side. The troubleshooting says to manually enter 3d mode and then select side by side or top bottom. My menu only lists simulated and top bottom. No side by side.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is a known problem. I'm not sure what causes it but it happens with my PS3 when I want to watch You Tube SBS half. Exactly as you described. A couple of times I was able to get it to work but I couldn't tell you what I did to make the SBS appear in the projector menus. I finally got a WDTV streaming box and that works. The big difference is that the PS3 limits 3D output to 720p while the WDTV allows for full HD at 1080p. If the Apple TV does the same, limit the output of SBS to 720p then that may be the problem.

Now, when I want to watch a SBS You Tube video, I have a macro that with one click on my remote control, pushes the Sony Projector into SBS mode. Once the movie is over, I have another macro that switches back to 3D AUTO. The WDTV box isn't as well known as the Roku or Apple but it is less money and has good apps for all the major players and is 3D compatible. I love Vudu 3D and Netflix 3D through it. Both are sent to the Projector as Frame Packed signals so the box does some conversion. YT is the only one I have to switch to SBS.

I found this review to be helpful. My room is an extremely dark Theater room with flat black front wall and ceiling with brown flat walls. This reviewer lists specific stock settings he felt gets this unit to produce a great picture. I am not an expert but the picture does look phenomenal. I was planning to hire someone to set it up but I am pleased so far with what this accomplished for me.

Greetings Sports Fans…

Today, out of the blue, my VW90ES lamp will not start. I recently had the filter cleaning message appear, but have not had any warning regarding the lamp.

I see "Starting" in the lower right screen corner, but then the lamp does not start and the projector shuts off and displays (3) red flashing sequence at the Lamp/Cover indicator. Well given the lamp is not too hot, I assume it's telling me to replace the lamp. I did try removing the lamp and reinstalling but that did not work, so it appears something in the lamp itself might have failed.

I would note earlier in the day, the projector did shut off once while starting, but then started and ran for several hours.

I have a new LMP-H201 lamp headed my way and I hope that resolves the issue.

I must say the projected image was still excellent. If I recall correctly, I am right around 1400 hours on the lamp.

I welcome any comments from other VW90 owners who have experienced the same thang.

Cheers

Byte

Sounds typical. Just replaced mine a couple weeks ago. I always keep a spare handy.

Be careful as there are lots of replacement bulbs and most fit fine, last for about 1500 hours for full brightness setting and about 2000-2500 for economy lower brightness setting.

Generally I pay no more than $120 and no less than $90. The more expensive are generally the same just from bigger named supplier. The cheaper ones like $65 will be some retrofit and the one I bought for $65 lasted only 240 hours. Even the housing looked different.

Your symptoms sound like the bulb's life is over. I once tried an OSRAM bulb and got 3800 hours on economy mode but paid $200. Then I bought another and it lasted 1900 so its really a crap shoot. Most of the cheaper ones are Phillips.

I'm in your price zone with a "Genuine" replacement lamp rather than an OEM $$$ Sony lamp. I would have bought the lamp from PureLandSupply but they wanted 2x the next day FedEx fee of everyone else. I ended up buying from LampPros, so I'll be sure to report on my customer experience.

You should be good. I failed to say that my prices included shipping cheapest rate. I don't do overnight since I'm always replacing a spare.

BTW- I keep my projector on a UPS to prevent flash brownouts that can shorten bulb life.

OK… new lamp assembly arrived today.

Old lamp read Philips on the outside of the lamp. New lamp reads nothing. There is some chinese lettering on the very back ceramic section holding the back wire.

Old lamp assembly had (2) metal shields on the top and bottom ports around the lamp, with the side to side ports for air flow were open. I moved these (2) metal shields from the old assembly to the new assembly.

New lamp assembly had a couple of finger prints on the outside of the glass front of the lamp assembly which cleaned up perfectly.

New lamp is installed and running fine. White balance appears normal to the eye with no apparent color shifts.

I have my fingers crossed and will report if any odd behavior develops.
