Sorry I didn't suggest that, because I knew that. Without the transmitter attached it doesn't know it's a 3D pj.

I would assume same goes for my JVC RS45, also requiring a transmitter.

Craig - this is/was so tempting, my VW60 is long in the tooth, and I am holding out for 4k PJ under $5k barrier....however in the end (this morning) I ordered a replacement bulb that should hold me over for 2 years, 2016 (1400 hrs/2 years is my avg)...

I do recommend this to others looking for a 1080PJ , what a bargain, $1.7k
http://shop.avscience.com/B-Stock-Closeouts_c_31.html

btw, MSRP was $2,999.99 never over $3k so how did this PJ end up in the over $3k not under $3k forum from the get go?

I replaced my VW60 with the AVS B Stock HW30ES.

Best change ever!,...I was frustrated with the light output of the VW60. New (original Philips bulbs) were 1/4 the brightness of the new bulb in a HW30. And my VW60 bulbs at 900 hours had a light output that I couldn't live with.

Finally got my 92" 16:9 Carada criterion brilliant white screen in this weekend, mounted, and fired up the b-stock HW30ES I purchased from AV Science. Did some basic alignment and image positioning, but definitely need to go back and double check everything.

In my *very* limiting viewing, I'm impressed for the price, but have only had the time to connect my Apple TV and stream some Netflix for a quick test. Can't wait to see blu-ray through this unit.

Was wondering where I might be able to find some suggested settings and calibration for this projector??

I'm throwing onto the 92" screen from only 10.5 feet -- so brightness is not an issue.

Would appreciate any help and suggestions as I work to get this dialed in...

Do you want to hire an ISF tech or buy calibration tools or just get suggested settings?...

If you just want suggested settings there are some in the first post of this thread.

Brian -- probably would have been prudent for me to look there. Thank you for pointing that out.

And no, I don't have a desire to have an ISF calibration. Think I will wait until I get my DVDO Air 3 hooked up and see how things look with blu-ray content with these settings.

I literally only had the projector for about 10 minutes this weekend once I got the screen up to throw a pattern and quickly align things, and then grabbed my apple tv to see what some content looked like.

So I will start here and see how things look...

The defaults of this projector are great.

It's also easy to dial in if you get into that sort of thing. Like if you want to do basic settings ... though I think that will just lead you back to defaults usually.

I have the HW30 projector for about a year and have a few playstation 3D glasses that work okay. I purchased a few glasses on EBAY TDG-BR250 after being told they are compatible with this projector. Well after sitting down to watch a movie the glasses sync but no 3D. Did I get burned buying a few of these? Any help would be appreciated.

The BR250 needs the add-on polarizing filters. They should still be available from Sony. You can find the part # somewhere on this thread.

I have this projector and needed the filters for the BR50 kid size glasses. There may be other glasses that will work.

You're not happy with the performance of the Playstation 3D glasses? What are your issues?

Noticing issue with my new Sony hw30es

Greetings,

I noticed something weird with my new Sony HW30.

It's difficult to explain by the way ! lol

Projector is working fine, image is superb but when the image projected is totally black, i'm noticing like a black trim or border around the image ( very pale)

It's not visible when I set my image correctly to fit my screen because the black border of my screen hide them.

But if i decrease the size of my image projected, i see like there's a frame around my black image (very pale).

I'm not sure if you understand since i'm a french guy and even in french i have difficulty to explain it ! hehe

Thanks in advance guys !

I think the Playstation 3D glasses do the job and are worth the price. I wanted to try out different 3D glasses to see if they were better and purchased a few of the BR250's only to find out you need adapters to get them to work. Sony will sell them for $48 for each pair which is not worth it since I can get almost 3 sets of Playstation glasses for the adapters alone. If anyone can point me in the direction to get cheaper adapters so I can get these two pair of BR250's to work it would be appreciated.

Note: You will be very happy with the HW40 and playstation glasses.

I think the reason is despite the low price the performance alone was enough to qualify it for the high end forum...

I like thinking that anyway.

The newer version of the unit also dropped the 3D hardware from the package when the 50ES was released. Personally I would buy the 30 over the stripped down 40ES if available.

Hi, I bought two pairs of these on your recommendation. Do they need filters to work with the HW30? How do I sync them?
Thanks!

Good price on 3D glasses if you need extras. I have the same style in large and they work perfectly with my HW30. I have the PS3 glasses and the image through the Xpand glasses is on par with but brighter than the PS3 glasses.

I picked up the VPL-HW30ES from Best Buy (couldn't resist) and am returning the HC2030. Hope I'm making the right choice. I hooked up the projector to my DVD player and watched some House of Cards and while I do like the PQ OOB, I couldn't help but notice that when the camera panned, the panning was kind of choppy. Now I haven't touched anything or changes or calibrated anything but I thought that choppy motion was weird. Is this normal or do I need to make some adjustments or is it simply a bad unit?
Also, could someone help me to a lowest cost for the 3D transmitter and glasses? What is the lowest price on a replacement lamp? Thanks.

WOW! This PJ is totally awesome. I played around with the settings and this is even better than my Panny Plasma TVs. I have owned a very early Infocus and an Optoma 720P before but this PJ really blew me away with its PQ. I was impressed with the PQ from Netflix and BD was soo crisp.

Agree. I'm approaching 3 years with mine. Best PJ I've owned so far.
