Those glasses are good and the price currently is insane.

I thought I was stealing them at around $20 each but ... I'm still glad they are around cheaper now naturally.

I have my emitter mounted above the pj and bounce the signal off the screen... At first documentation said that wouldn't work, if I remember correctly... but it works fine in my case.

(I did go into the service manual and change the emiter strength setting from low to high,.. I think... it was a while back now. There must be some details on the earlier pages of this post.... I may have not even needed to bother with that.)

Anyways,... happy for you ... good luck putting it all together.

Just received word from SONY that they are replacing the optical block, so my machine will be like brand new when I get it back.

I'm only allowed to have the one I already bought.

I wouldn't mind cleaning you out of them if I had the unlimited type cash flow.

I also just ordered mine from Craig. Can't wait to set up my first projector after so many years of being on the sidelines with a theater waiting...

I can't imagine it as a first projector,... good choice.

It's like my 5th or 7th projector... I'm not sure how to count a couple that I think I bought for parts. Most of them were CRT and maybe different enough to be considered on their own list.

It's only my second digital pj. It's a big improvement over my VW60. (Though the motorized focus on the VW60 was something I could miss.)

has anyone tried replacing the lamp with a HW40 or HW55 lamp? I haven't even looked if they are the same footprint or specs but just trying to see if you can put a brighter replacement that will work...

I think all three use the same lamp sku, the LMP-H202. Manufacturers have been using software-based modulation techniques on the lamps for the last few years to squeak more output from the same lamps.

So I threw on an AVS convergence test pattern, and, though I know it's not lined up, I saw this. Nothing I've noticed outside the pattern, but what is this? I see these missing spots on the edges at the top, bottom, and left hand sides. Always at the very edges. It almost looks like the convergence gets worse as you go from bottom to top when you can look at it up close too.

Not sure what I see in those shots. Could there be blanking?... Clipping of the edges? I suppose maybe that is on to some extent on the projector or the source device.

I know it can be turned off on the projector.

So I finally got the chance to experience a full 100" image via broadcast TV on this thing, which was awesome, and then threw on some animation in the form of Kung Fu Panda. Love the color accuracy. And whatever convergence issue that was in my pics, it only seems to show up in the test pattern, so no big deal.

I do have a question about improving these blacks though. I know my room sucks, but even on an all black screen this thing puts out enough light to make my screen glow, and black bars are just not good. If I could get it a bit better, I'd be really happy.

I read there is some form of iris tweak via the service menu? I was thinking of trying that, or maybe an ND filter, but also my lamp only has 268 hours on it or so. Should I maybe just wait a while and see how much the lamp dims? I have no idea how far along this is in the area of lamp life/brightness.

Also had a minor lip sync issue. My Yamaha 373 has never before used the auto lip sync adjustment, but last night I checked it after noticing things didn't match up and it suddenly had a value set at 54 ms. Turning it off made it seem better, but still felt a bit off. I'm just going PS3-Yamaha 373-(25' HDMI cable into) HW30. I wouldn't think it would be THAT far off.

The room will have a big impact, however, there may be settings to help too. What picture mode are you using? Toggle through them. Perhaps Cinema 1 with the auto iris. And toggle through the different gamma settings. Then, if you can, get to work improving that room !

I'd appreciate some advice on which test disc to buy to set my projector up. Since this is my first, I do not have any calibration discs or hardware. I have seen reference to the Spears and Munsil as well as an AVS disc that I can't seem to locate. I am not particularly fussy, but I would like to ensure that my unit has decent convergence and no obvious lens aberrations, since the uni is a b-stock item. TIA

For a quick pattern I always use the pattern built into it! I think the button is called 'pattern'.

Can anyone offer a reason NOT to use one of these projector mounts? It looks well made to me.

I bought one of these several years ago for my Sony VW60 and it also works for my current HW30ES.

(It's 90% cheaper.)
