It might be so bright you would have to go to a lower gain screen.

A little sad is that ( if Im reading the manual correct ) it cant do FI ( motionflow/ enhancer ) in 3D upscaled to 4K - I like FI on 3D ) but it is probely a proccessor and panel limit !?

dj

Maybe it cant be turned off ( the 4K scaling ), and then have FI on ? ( I would have liked both )

Good to hear Joe!

Looks like another comptetish to see who's Sony contacts come through first for 'the next one'(that's a bit understated lol), I mean the big daddy, in the Sony projector stakes. My spidey(4K) senses are tingling lol. Good times ahead in next few weeks eh. Not to say the 95 hasn't well exceeded expectations as my 'interim' unit! Better not say that on the owners thread had I! Mind you the 95's going to replace my faultless VW70 and have a very much easier life in weekender duty.

I might have a chance to get my hands on this one in January. Anyone know how to feed 4K content into the projector? Does it have an HD-SDI input on it?

No , "only" two HDMI 1.4a

This is the trouble with a projector like this. How on Earth to get 4K content to it? I think you will need a dedicated HTPC with dual HDMI out, and even then you need to source the original 4K master content to stream out of it.

Guys. We have posted the manual. The only way to feed it is by one of two HDMI 1.4a inpiuts. They can not be used in tandem. One can feed a 4K signal (4096 x 2160 or 3840 x 2160) that way provided the refresh or frame rate is low. In terms of a DCI type signal, the machine won't take it in. It is not DCI compliant in terms of being able to accept a DCI signal. Of course it has the resolution in terms of pixel numbers and color space of a DCI compliant machine but that of course is only part of DCI compliancy and the rest of what is minimally needed is lacking.

Sony does have DCI compliant machines but they will cost you quite a bit more for one of them.

You can get 4k material through a single HDMI 1.4 port/cable. The only drawback thus far is that you can only do 24hz refresh rates. It wouldn't be a drawback for me but some people would like the flexibility for higher framerates. I'd be happy to see some of these companies start to support DisplayPort.

Agreed. It seems like the best bet for consumers first getting 4K input is via a souped-up BD format that is widely being rumored to come out soon. Having 60Hz hdtv type input at 4K seems MUCH further away.

This may have already been discussed, but is there any logic to using this with an anamorphic lens? The native aspect is 1.85 and the resolution could probably withstand a little zooming. Plus it looks like the native lens is indented quite a bit. And will there be any issues with 3D that's 2.35?

Understood. I apologise it had been mentioned earlier in this thread and I forgot. But I am guessing the only source material right now would have to be fed via a PC. If someone gets their shiny new VW1000 in January, where can they get some 4K material to output on it?!

Sony's advertisements for the 1000 have certainly be pushing the idea that one can eliminate the need for an a-lens by 'zooming', because of the higher res and also the lens memory feature.

I was planning on shooting my own but finding a player that outputs 4K over HDMI sounds a bit more difficult. I don't think any current display adapters from Nvidia or AMD can do 4K. AMD's new 7970, out in January, might.

On AMD's site for 7970 it says,

* 3GHz HDMI 1.4a with Stereoscopic 3D Frame Packing Format, Deep Color, xvYCC wide gamut support, and high bit-rate audio
- Max resolution: 4096x3112
- 1080p60 Stereoscopic 3D
- Quad HD/4k video support

So the only way to view 4K on the VW1000 is through hdmi only? Lets get this straight, a 4K projector , 4K only with hdmi, I smell 4k blu ray! Its on its way! Happy New Year!

Thinking about 4K BD for a moment... either BDA needs to implement a new codec with superior compression capability, or stick with AVC and much higher bitrates than seen on BD currently. Next bottleneck will be current Blu-ray disc spec with its limited disc space and spin rate. No matter what, we'll all buy new players and AV receivers - again.

Not AV receivers. Just make sure the player we get has dual HDMI outs. For future 4K type players that should be a given.
