I only posted because someone asked "What is the going rate right now for our pjs on the used market?" Like I said I'm not trying to devalue anyone's projector. I'm just answering a question.

Reasonable suggestion. For me, a trip to the breaker box is a statement to the family that watching the projector is "too big a deal". A quick flip with a wireless remote is much less of a hassle.

Did this start after the upgrade, or was this a 1000 issue?

I have the issue with a 1000 projector. I wouldnt worry too much about it.

Well, 1000s are no longer made, they will not be upgradable very very soon and the market knows that even though many were bought cheaper than the remaining 1000s and 1100s there's no reason for owners to accept this low of a price anymore. They are truly 1100s when upgraded and a steeper resale price should follow by a significant amount on low hour pjs. I wouldn't sell my upgraded 1000 for no less than almost what I paid for it considering how dealers can't give deals anymore. A buyer on the used market would still be saving $13k if I sold it for $16k by the time taxes are applied. On the used market $13k savings is HUGE to that section of people. I know as I've been there in other situations.

But, like you've pointed out, the buyers always determine the value. There's no changing that without some outliers.

I just feel fortunate enough to have been able to get a deal before Sony showed it @ss with retailers sales restrictions. My wife literally looked at me like I was crazy when I told her how much I paid for it. I can only imagine she would have "spoke" if that number started with a 2 and then followed by a 9 once taxes were applied. It might as well had started with a 3. I'm fortunate that we rarely if ever even speak to each other about money but I'd be willing to bet I couldn't get away with purchasing an 1100 from a dealer today.

Yup, people will just have to try their luck and see if they can get what they deem their unit is worth. I'm just reporting what I've seen on roughly a dozen 1000ES's over the past few months. If you can't get your asking price you may as well keep it.

Oh, I totally agree and am glad someone like you can verify the latest sales. Lets see what happens with used upgraded units which should be few and far between.

And yes if sold it for that much what would I do with the money if still needed a pj???? No real options without adding another $10k+ to replace it. I doubt there will be big advances between 1200-1300 in near future? We will see a different light source by then or shortly after hopefully?

+1, the SURE pricing could keep the 1100 higher than the 1000's were avail for, so the 1000 + kit looks like a bit of a bargain.

I won't have a puck and server for a few more days and I don't know how the install of a second board went for me in Philly. Perhaps I will pick in up halfway towards Philly on Monday or Tuesday if things went OK. I suspect but don't know that Chad is the Chad in ES Integrator.support at Sony. If you call the Sony content lines and ask a difficult question about getting 4K movies or perhaps even if you ask a technical how to, the ladies (often) say let me route you to a 4K expert (you get routed to Chad). Ask them what the K stands for Ask them is it the same K as in Coach K Court. Sooner or later you get routed to the two guys who man ES integrator, Chad and Tony. Actually they were a singing duo Tony and Chad sounds better but not if tony was actually Jeramie and then Chad and Jeramie would sound beter but I degress. They survived the riff.but not the people they get the answers from. Is it as bad as me, good old doom and gloom Mark is saying? No. Its a lot worse.

Pease correct my assumptions if wrong...

New 1100es: MSRP $27,999

Assume 20% off of list (ignoring SURE pricing for a moment): $22,400

Assume 6.5% sales tax (average) $23,850

I would a fair price for a excellent condition fully operation used unit (presuming the 1100 upgrade, FMP, tablet, and new spare lamp is included) would be $6-8k less, so in the 15-16k range at this point, including the paypal fee. Only shipping would add cost vs buying new from a local dealer.

I believe the Sony ES warranty is transferrable as well, most of us are about 2 years or less into the 5 year warranty

I love it when you are WRONG. smile.gif The warrantee from Sony is 3 years. The server will be obsolete within a year. There will be a new server and it won't require a tablet for operation hopefully. The new bulb will normally have been installed. Most of us are at a new bulb soon point. certainly if the sale is a year from now. I think a price of around have of the MSRP on a 1100ES will be about right. Something around $14K so we are close to agreeing on the bottom line.

Thrang. So your point even with a 20% fits what I said I'd take no lower than scenario.

So is the 20% a reality or just for example?

Need some coffee?

I'd say in a year yea that would be safe assumption but now around 16-17k could be had if there aren't any sales pricing, no?

Well, I am assuming an average discount...I'm certain some dealers stick to SURE or close to it, others are more liberal in discounting...perhaps some owners can chime in, if not with their actual discount, just if they think 20% is a good approximation.

Yup, we all need to figure out what our upgraded to 1100's are worth as Sony scrapping the 1100 production and is moving up to the 1200es 8K projector and we all will be upgrading and selling our 1100's.biggrin.gif

Unfortunately with a flood of 1100's for sale, it will drive down the price of our 1100's to $4k..... mad.gif

FLASH! The rumor is that Sony will be upgrading all of the 1100 owners to the new 1200 for only $8000!eek.gif
All the upgrades will be performed by techs out of India

Here we go again. I'm sure this will drive Mike G to drink!tongue.gif

Oh ok. I was just under the impression that there were no sales, period. I bought mine before SURE was enforced so was a great deal.

When was that implemented? Sometime in mid/late 2012? So anyone after that would be able to give us any idea. But it must be from avs or other authorized dealer that is still such dealer. Any dealer that didnt want to obey Sony could have gave deals only to be dropped later.

I really don't know how Sony enforces SURE, as there is no real-time reporting from individual and diverse POS systems...some dealers have dummy invoicing systems to maintain the facade should a manufacture want a copy of an invoice as well...

Clearly, SURE will be embraced by many dealers to create much better margins, but long-time, loyal customers usual are not forced to participate. Additionally, sales of bundles can also obsfucate were a bulk discount should be applied...

Nonetheless, the more SURE is enforced, the more it increases resale value...

Mike doesn't drive to drink. I don't think he even drinks.

However, it seems that most here have already drunk the Cool Aid.

My server, tablet and bulb will be here Tuesday. All I need is my projector back. Basketball on my 64 inch plasma looks so tiny. Hockey is ridiculous.

As mentioned, the warranty is fully transferable. Used 1000s are an insane value.

A ton of risk though....at least in my case, I had to go through 4 units to get one that didn't have issues. Don't get me wrong, I love this projector and won't part with it, but that is a TON of risk in my experience to buy one of these used AS IS.

To me, if you buy from an enthusiast, you come out BETTER used in that regard. The guy who bought the one I recently sold got a great unit that I had already selected from 3 returns just like you. Whoever buys the one I have now will get the most perfectly converged SXRD that I have ever seen. So buying used could be a blessing.

But if there is a transferable warranty, the risk is mitigated. And most return issues were up front anomalies or borderline quality concerns. Knock on wood, there does not seem to be any failed units reported here (I'm sure there are a few)

As hifi noted, almost every 1000/1100 in the field has already been run through the gauntlet...

With full panel alignment, EVERYONE has perfect convergence...

With the 600 in play, I doubt many used ones go for more that 10k now and that will continue to erode. I'm hoping to get 4-5 more years and sell for 4-5k.

Hifi, if dont mind....why did you have two units? Summer/winters homes or just different rooms?

And, I think any used unit that came from a member here would be rather worry free purchase as we all took full advantage of the exchange program. I'm sure there may be a couple of members that may not have noticed some of the small stuff that some of us more picky/observant users noticed. But...if their was a warranty transfer then shipping the unit to Sony isn't a very big deal. All that said, if I were in the used market as a buyer I wouldn't purchase from anywhere that I couldn't see the unit in action unless they accepted returns which would be highly unlikely from a personal sale. Once you're in the market of $10k plus on used electronics, paying a few extra hundred/thousand for assurance isn't much really so buying a marked up unit from someone like Mike could be worth it.

Unfortunately with a flood of 1100's for sale, it will drive down the price of our 1100's to $4k..... mad.gif

All the upgrades will be performed by techs out of India
