Hi,

I own an DLA HD1 and my lamp is now at 3700 hours. I'd like to replace it, but I'm searching all over the place and finding JVC lamps, OEM lampts etc. Do the owners in this thread have any recommendations for lamps? If I'm looking at results on the web, how can I be sure that they are the actual JVC lamps and not OEM ones?

thanks,
Sean

I was always told to use the original lamp. I have had 2 replacements. I use the BHL-5009 and found AVS to be the least expensive. I have also heard that you can get the bare bulb and replace it in the existing housing which would be a cheaper solution. I have not tried any of the aftermarket.

I finally got a OSRAM replacement bulb to install in the JVC housing. Initial result is approximately 25% more light from a new JVC bulb. I will be watching its performance and hope to have time to analyze the spectrum and resulting colorspace.

Glenn: how has your experience been with the Osram replacement? Have an RS1 coming due for a new bulb. Is the osram easily installed in the JVC housing?

How to best get the Osram bulb?

Regards,
Jim

I haven't had the projector on for a couple months ... been busy and also breaking in a RS65 for calibration. The bulb has performed great and I think it has been much better than the OEM. Haven't had time to calibrate it. The installation requires cutting leads from original bulb, installing wire terminals, getting screws to attach leads.

Hi Everyone,

I'm also now looking to replace the bulb in my RS-1. Any suggestions on best place to purchase? Would like to buy the bulb and housing as a complete set so I don't mess anything up. Just about to hit 2,000 hours and would like to get this taken care of.

I see the Osman (sp?) bulb is getting good reviews, but is there an actual JVC replacement that isn't nearly $200?

Thanks

The retail on it is $400 and believe it or not there is not a huge mark up on these. I doubt you will find one for near $200, you would have to look at an after market one. If you want the JVC one I would call AVS, they would be competitive.

purelandsupply.com is where I get my replacement bulbs from. I did a lot of research on replacement bulbs - what ones were good, what ones were junk and why. Short version is: OEM bulb in 3rd party cage = MUCH lower cost and same performance as OEM.

My research is here: Adventures in VW40/50/60 bulbs

I have recommended PLS to friends and use them for my own projectors (three different projectors now), never had any problems. I used to DIY my own OEM bulbs + recycled or 3rd party cages but I don't bother to do it anymore, easier just to get a lamp from PLS. Save yourself a lot of money and go with them. There are two different links below, but the bulb part number is the same.

We have used the Diamond lamps and have had no problems with them.

Unhappy

Anyone got bum lamps lately? I thought my previous lamp wasn't up to snuff, but thought maybe it was just me. It eventually burned out (a first for me- I have a shelf full of well-used but working lamps) and I ordered a replacement from JVC.

New lamp appears dim and has gotten dimmer according to measurements from the whitegoods light meter app on my phone. I know those measurements aren't likely to be numerically significant, but they seem to be consistent day-to-day. I took the measurement with the front camera and the phone pressed up against the center of my screen (face up, of course) late at night when there's nearly no ambient light from downstairs.

I'm going to take the same measurement from an old lamp tonight to clinch it, but I think it's a lemon. Are things getting worse or am I just unlucky?

I just got a replacement bulb the other day and when I put it in the projector it looked dimmer than my OEM bulb that was still going strong at 2200 hours. I compaired it to my other replacement bulb and the OEM and I saw that the new bulb was not sitting straight in the housing.

I took it appart and aligned everything correctly. Tried it again and wow it was nice and bright. Hopefully it will last at least 600 hours till 4k projectors come down in price...
